As the Russians appear to be deeply interested in English Cathedrals they should have come to Chichester. It exemplifies all that is special about this particular genre. Light airy, soaring Gothic, with a wealth of interesting plaques and memorials. The life of Chichester through the centuries is reflected in these artefacts as is the role of area in a far flung empire and scores of conflicts. The memorial statue to William Huskisson MP the first person killed by a railway engine ' The Rocket.' was an interesting find. This also appears to be a functional well used Cathedral with helpful, welcoming and friendly staff and guides ( not always evident in other Cathedrals.) The cloisters again were well preserved and a fine example of the type. Cafe on site and free entry with a suggested voluntary donation.

They are renewing the old copper roof and we were happy to support them as this is one of England's great cathedrals. We were lucky enough to turn up when a lunchtime concert was planned. Lovely music in a peacefull setting. Worth checking out when these concerts are on and linking with your visit.

Interesting visit beautiful old cathedral. Situated in the centre of Chichester so very easy to stroll through the grounds. It was a bonus that a lunch time concert was taking place that coincided with our visit. These concerts generally take place each week. Well attended, tea/ coffee complimentary and friendly helpful, guides.
