Shame this wine bar is not getting more attention here - it sits in a very prominent place opposite the cathedral, and is an old Victorian-gothic church! A bit cavernous, but warm, and very interesting windows and roof etc!! Plenty of nooks and crannies to sit in, and absolutely ideal for groups - you can reserve tables or whole areas to make sure you have space enough. Nice bar area. I had 10oz rump steak, and this was well cooked (rare), tasty, with good chips, tomato and peas - and this was about £10.50. Most meals are less than this - paella at about £7.00, etc. Wide choice in range £6-£10, with a whole range of offer meals at only £4.95. Drinks were well priced....decent bottle of French red wine was only £7.95, which is exceptional. Although there appeared to be just one barman/waiter, he managed extremely well. Its the sort of place that no-one seems to mention locally, but its in a great position and offers very good value in an unusual environment. Probably not for romantic fine dining, but perfect for friends, families, group meals.
