Description: The George has been a public house for over 170 years and is first shown on the Tithe Map from 1840. Nestled into the rolling hills of the Sussex South Downs National Park The George is just off the beaten track in the small village of Eartham, perfectly situated just 6 miles from the bustling city of Chichester and within 10 miles of Petworth, Midhurst and Arundel. A traditional English pub, it provides a comfortable and welcoming place to visit whatever the season. There are three open fires for those cool autumn and winter evenings and a pretty garden to sit out in on bright summer days. There is a selection of good walks and cycle routes in this area including Eartham woods, The South Downs Way and a particularly interesting section of Stane Street (56 mile long Roman Road connecting Chichester to London) located an easy 1/2 mile walk from the pub. The George is a privately owned Freehouse and your hosts Anita & James offer a warm welcome to all. We are proud to offer good honest British food with a seasonal menu taking advantage of locally sourced ingredients plus a selection of traditional roasts for your Sunday Lunch. Whether you want a full meal or only a light bite, your food is freshly prepared to order. In our well kept cellar we include a wide selection of English, Commonwealth & New World wines, English Mead and soft drinks. There are always 4 or 5 choices of Real Ales sourced from local and national quality breweries. We also have a wide range of English Lagers, Ciders and bottled Beers.

Lovely little pub restaurant in Eartham. Need to book as it is very popular. Food and service FIRST CLASS. Staff very friendly and helpful. Can't wait to go back.

“Birthday Treat from Daughter”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 19, 2014

75th birthday treat for my wife from our daughter and her two small children (husband away with his company). Excellent table and friendly staff. It was a bit busy on this Saturday lunchtime but the food was worth the wait. Four local real ales including a porter which I would have again. In the summer there is a spacious garden but not a lot for small children to do but ours coped OK.

“Saturday lunch”

We were recommended by Tim at Upwartham Barns to try the pub for lunch. What a lovely find it was! The pub had a warm welcome and the food was great. We would certainly return.

“Great welcome on a cold wet New Year's Eve.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 31, 2013

We arrived quite late and hadn't booked but the very friendly staff made room for us. Our 2 dogs settled in the corner and we had one of the best Pub lunches, ever. Will certainly visit again but next time we will book.

“Sunday Lunch Excellence”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed December 9, 2013

Great food, gravy to die for and really friendly staff. The perfect place for a Sunday lunch with friends and family. The menu has great variety and a super wine list, you just can't go wrong. They are very popular so book in plenty of time, but even though they are busy the staff always have time to be friendly, helpful and accommodating. It is fast becoming my non-local local!!
