Description: Cloisters Cafe prides itself on fair trade suppliers and freshly cooked food, featuring dishes such as smoked haddock with a gruyere and tomato gratin, supreme of chicken in a mushroom and tarragon sauce and roasted sweet potato with a bean ragu. Old favourites also appear on the menu along with baked potatoes and a range of hot and cold sandwiches. There is a roast on Sundays when bookings can be made in advance. Cloisters also has a beautiful walled garden and the stunning Cathedral spire can be seen through its glazed roof. Next to our cafe is the Cloisters Shop, offering a range of unique and gorgeous gifts and accessories, souvenirs and religious items. A perfect way to round off a visit to the Cathedral, or just to find that special present.

We use The Cloisters a fair bit since it is a good place to meet friends and, in the warmer weather, to sit outside in the attractive garden. Lunches are good value when the Winter Warmers have been on offer, but if I have to pay higher prices, there are many better alternatives in Chichester for similar prices. Coffees is just ok, tea is better, and the choice of cakes is quite limited. Some staff are lovely but several appear off hand and disinterested.

Tip: Try to avoid lunch time when there is a concert in the Carhedral - the place is teaming with folk who can't seem to make up their mind on what to eat and where to sit.

The walk through The Close and cloisters is very pleasant and the Cathderal shop often has interesting items.

The Cloisters has grown and changed over the years and still gives brilliant value for money. It is generally a very good place to grab a quick coffee/snack and 'carry on shopping' - or to meet with a friend and idle time. It is very popular in the summer and queues can form. Best plan to be early for coffee/lunch.
An ideal place for the 'solo' shopper.
The staff are always lovely and I believe are generally local students at weekends/holidays.
The garden is fairly small but a lovely place to be in the summer; there is also a small terrace. Also seating just outside the entrance door but covered. Ideal for wheelchairs and pushchairs; this area however can be very draughty and potentially wet from driving rain.
There is generally an interesting range of 'free' magazines/leaflets available.
Access also to the Cathedral gift shop from here and the Cathedral.
Toilets are good.

Love the gardens in the summer - great view of the Cathedral spire and when they are there, the peregrines. In winter it can get very crowded and noisy at lunchtimes. Good toilet facilities. Food is OK and quite good value, but the coffee is not brilliant. I think the staff are volunteers and they are always friendly and helpful. It's a good location with access from both West Street and South Street, but not ideal for anyone who is not able to walk very far. The Cathedral shop is right next to the restaurant and it sometimes has some different gift ideas.

Simple, trad lunches, very well cooked - fish pie, chicken casserole, baked potatoes, etc. And the walled garden is just a beautiful place to sit and relax in the middle of lovely Chichester.
