“tasty food for all the family”
Reviewed November 23, 2012

Our family and friends visited Carluccio's for Sunday lunch, the food was tasty, arrived on time and the service was good. It had a relaxed atmosphere and catered well for children and families.

“Disappointing experience”
Reviewed November 15, 2012

We arrived just before 5pm. The resturant was very quiet with just a couple of tables occupied. The was a staff team meeting on a top table so waiting staff were scarse.

We were greeted and seated and ordered a bottle of wine (we had a voucher which we gave to the waiter) and a bread basket as a starter and a Lasagne & side salad each for our main course.

The bread basket came, not really fresh but acceptable We asked for 2 small plates for the bread but they did not arrive and I had to go to the counter for them.

After a short time our Lasagne was put on the table - no mention of our side salads. After 5 minutes we tried to attract some attention, with difficulty.

Eventually, a waitress from the team meeting, which had just finished, asked us if we needed any help - we asked about our side salads, which had been forgotted, which she then brought to our table with no apology for the delay.

Our Lasagne was pretty mediocre really, not poor enough to complain and make a fuss about but the top layer of my partner's was burnt hard from being too long under the grill.

From our seating positin we could observe the chefs at work They would put cooked meals out on the warmer and shout 'Service' - it was often 5 or more minutes or more before a waiter took the meals to a table, by which time some were drying out.

Our finished main course plates were cleared but no mention of 'would you like a desert'.

Some 10 minutes later we were asked if we would like a desert - we ordered the Tiramisu with fruit, to share - really disappointing and left most of it.

We were by now eager to leave and asked for the bill. This came but the wine voucher for some £15 was not shown - this was subsequently corrected but was avoidable had the staff done their job properly.

On leaving we did expreess our disappointment at the service we recieved and were told 'sorry but it was a difficult time of day as staff numbers were short'!

We both feel that the Maestro 'Carluccio', who we have met & dined at his now defunct lovely Covent Garden resturant , would be sad to have his name associated with this poor experience.

“Much better service”
Reviewed November 10, 2012

Breakfast was served quickly and was tasty - though could have been hotter. Staff were much more friendly and efficient, but it was around 10.00 am and the place was hardly buzzing that early! Choice of breakfast was good and the combined offer with juice, cooked breakfast (Italian style) and a hot drink, was good value.

“Great Italian food”
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Had lunch for two. Good choice on the menu. Service was speedy and pleasant abducted the atmosphere was good too. Nice to see things on the menu that were new to me - like pasta chips. Perhaps a bit of an acquired taste!

“not sure I would bother going back....”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

I took my husband to Carluccio's as a birthday treat and was very disappointed. We waited over 40 minutes for our starters (pate and garlic focaccia) which do not take any time to prepare and when they arrived the pate was runny although the butter on the top was set. The staff were all very young and more interested in talking to each other than doing any work. The main course however, when we finally got it, was very nice. The chicken was perfectly cooked. My son had the tiramisu for dessert and quite honestly, he can make a better one and he is only 9! It wasn't very good.
All in all, I am not sure that I would want to go back as if you have to wait for over 40 minutes for a starter when the restaurant is empty, how long will you have to wait when they are busy?????
Also, the doors do not shut properly and if you are sat on the bench with your back to the window you have a permanent draught on your back and neck. I had to keep my jacket on all the time. I did tell the waitress but all she said was it has always been like that and there is nothing she can do.
