A huge thank you to Natalie and her team for pulling out all the stops for my son's wedding on Saturday 5th July. The care and attention taken was outstanding, the wedding lunch was excellent. A memorable occasion enjoyed by family and friends alike. We would recommend the Ship Hotel unreservedly, and appreciate all the help and support of the team there for the planning and hosting of the wedding.

A spur of the moment decision led us to spend a night in Chichester and a last minute booking at the Ship Hotel, we are regular visitors to ti Sussex city, and our first choice of hotels were unavailable, so we grabbed the last room at the Ship.

Fabulous location right on North Street perfect for shopping, the theater. etc

Greeted on arrival all is well, room 15 is small and hot although a fan was provided and difficult to find, the bar is crowded as there is a wedding on so somewhat chaotic in terms of service. We decided to eat out.

Breakfast was adequate to good, no cups at the table salt no pepper, and the bar area had debris from the night before, it is a pleasant hotel but rates no more than average overall but the location is superb. I would reccommend booking a bigger room so do not go for standard which could be described as small.

Room Tip: Book higher than standard which can only be described as small and the rooms can be noisy if near ba...

THE SHIP
The Ship is a very old building in an ancient town!! Location is great…easy to find, park and access local shops cathedral theatre etc. Décor is smart/contemporary..dark woods, lime green & greys. Reception, lounge, bar, restaurant all look good and the bedrooms continue that theme but we were very disappointed with our room. It was clean, the bed was comfy but it was TINY….too small for 2 people to move around! Bathroom was ok….slightly dated but clean and functional.,,..,.,.but shower curtains are an absolute No No these days! There was no privacy because its on the main street unless you close the curtains but then the rooms dark so you have to put the lights on which made the room even hotter than it already was….so it didn’t feel great to be in the room!! I had contacted the hotel in advance to explain it was my mother’s 80th birthday treat asking for a nice room but it felt like we’d been given the worst in the hotel….tiny, on the 2nd floor, facing the street, right by the lift which was noisy and dangerous (it’s v old so mind your fingers when you close the old metal door!). Food/drink in the restaurant Murrays was good. I wouldn’t say it was brilliant but the ambiance etc was nice, service was good, prices weren’t bad. We got £30 pp allowance towards a la carte or set menu included in the dbb rate….we had 3 courses and still had allowance left over so you can easily get a v good meal on that rate. Breakfast was good but let down by poor service, served in Murrays the décor etc was all great, the buffet nicely presented and good variety and cooked breakfast was nicely served but the crockery was dirty especially the tea and coffee pots…they were a bit disgusting actually!!

Overall I’d recommend The Ship for location…..but I’d make sure you get a better room than we did (not 2nd floor opposite the lift!), dbb is good value but the one thing that really lets this place down is the staff/service. They were polite but they were like zombies…..nobody really made any attempt to talk to us, serving food in silence…..generally unfriendly unhelpful. If they could sort out the staff then this would be a great place!!

Room Tip: avoid the lift, get room on ground or 1st floor.

The ship hotel has a big personality, and is perfectly located to get the most out of Cichester and the surrounding area
The bar and restaurant are comfortable, beautifully decorated, spacious and peaceful, with excellent choices of food and wine.
Our room was spotlessly clean and well equipt
All the staff are focussed on delivering customer service, and even though the hotel was very busy, we felt like valued customers
We will definitely return again soon
A brilliant place to stay! Highly recommended

Everyone was very friendly and helpful from checking in to the bar. The room, a single, was very comfortable with a three quarters bed. Breakfast was good and service was great. Yes, I will go back in the future.

Room Tip: My room was on the back, and though there is not air conditioning, a fan did a good job of cooling t...

We stayed here following a day at The Goodwood Festival of Speed 2014. We were rather late booking and could only chose a 'Superior' room. We were given No. 1, a delightful dual aspect room, obviously recently decorated and spotlessly clean. As it was a warm day, we were pleasantly surprised to find that the curtains were completely drawn and a fan had already been turned on in anticipation of our arrival. The bathroom was also immaculate and the towels were thick and fluffy. The bed was very comfortable and we both slept very well. We were also delighted to find a good stock of Tea and Coffee making supplies, a small point maybe, but it's sometimes the little things that matter most when you're away from home
We both enjoyed our ample and tasty full breakfast. In particular I can recommend the coffee and the bacon!
All the staff we encountered were both helpful and friendly - a credit to the Hotel! We would have no hesitation in returning.

Room Tip: No.1 is spacious and comfortable.

The town is lovely, it's a fabulously sunny day, the hotel frontage looks great, and the greeting at check in was fine. All good so far.

I was fortunate to be on a corporate rate, but clearly I was in a "special" room reserved for discounted room rates. I could barely walk around the bed it was so pokey, it was a dreadful room. Clean and presentable, but poorly laid out in the extreme. The hot tap in the sink was completely jammed shut.

My evening meal was quite pleasant too, but there was only one other person in the whole of the large restaurant. No atmosphre at all.

Then in the morning, the final insult. I was seated for breakfast, had a coffee pot delivered, then was completly ignored for the next 20 minutes. There were plenty of staff around, it's just they don't seem to have the most simple mechansim of allocating table sections to serving staff. You don't need a system any more complex than walking past someone 5 times, without a cooked breakfast, then asking if anyone has taken an order!

I pity the tourists paying the full SP, I would have asked for my money back.

Not happy, won't be back.
