We recently stayed here for 2 nights. We had a great room and since the weather was lovely, we had breakfast in our room both days and ate outside in the sunshine at our table and chairs. The room was very extremely comfortable. We had dinner both nights in the Richmond and had wonderful food and excellent service. All the staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a great time and would definitely visit again.

Room Tip: Choose a garden room to eat breakfast in the sunshine.

We had a lovely overnight stay here in April to celebrate a friend's birthday. The hotel and staff were pleasant and welcoming, the room was faultless, bed very comfy, in fact everything we wanted.
We ate dinner at The Kennels which was superb, a wonderful atmosphere in gorgeous surroundings with fabulous food.
Breakfast was delicious, fruit, porridge and pastries.
Throughly enjoyable and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this hotel.

Comfortable hotel, well located for exploring Chichester and the surrounding countryside. We had a signature king room which was spacious, though bathroom small. Many room safes are out of commission at the moment so ask for a room with a working safe if this matters to you.

Lovely walks directly from the hotel but the hotel's leaflet is inadequate. We did the Green Route and got completely lost at point 14 - there are many routes through Counters Gate Country Park and it is not at all clear from the directions or the accompanying basic map how one reaches Pilley Green Field; we were fortunate to find another walker who knew or we would have had to retrace our steps or walk on the road. Indicative distances between stages of the walk would also be helpful - we met a couple who were lost at stage 6. Hotel should either provide an OS map or more detailed directions.

Food generally very good though sauces on the meat courses rather too heavy for our taste. Brown bread at breakfast would have been appreciated. Eat dinner in the Richmond Arms if noise is an issue - the Bar and Grill is deafening!

I stayed here with the girls on our annual golf weekend away; 1 night, 2 rounds of golf. The hotel is beautiful, although oddly mainly on one level, so you can spend a lot of time in corridors. It is all beautifully and recently decorated - in fact I would assume that the accommodation is all quite new - but that said it doesn't lack character. Food was excellent as was the evening service, albeit rather slow. That said pace wasn't a problem as we were enjoying a night out and I would rather that, than be rushed through a meal.
The beds are to die for - very very comfortable - and I'm fussy!
Breakfast service was again rather slow and unlike all the other staff we encountered (who were warm and courteous) the two English girls seemed to be rather grumpy - you know; said the right words, but the meaning wasn't conveyed in their faces or manner. Food was again excellent. Afternoon service was much better and I can hugely recommend the scones - the best we've ever tasted - and they give you two!
As regards the golf - the Downs course is great but you do have to pay a premium for this. The Park course was fine, but not exciting - although we did play at the beginning of Spring when the greens had just been dressed and probably therefore haven't seen the course at its best. Both courses were very busy and therefore quite slow - glad we were fourballs or we'd have gone mad! The facilities are superb here, beautiful locker rooms (free!), but if you are tempted to have one of their very nice bacon sandwiches at the Kennels - do leave yourself plenty of time!!!
Would definitely go back - but unlike one of the other reviewers, do get yourself a package- it works out much cheaper.

Room Tip: Bearing the situation of the Hotel - I would reckon that all the rooms are quiet. I would guess being on a package, that we were in the cheapest and I would rate our rooms above other Hotels where I've paid a premium for an upgrade (all our rooms were identical)

We stayed at the Goodwood Hotel for our first anniversary. The hotel is very nice, with a small pool and good golf course. It's in a lovely location too. The room was nice with a very comfy bed, but the most annoying thing was the fixed hair dryer that you have to keep your finger on the button to work. Surely for £170 there could be a proper hair dryer that you could use without having to stay perfectly still.
We enjoyed the stay and I think we would go back with friends, where we could make more use of the facilities. However, for a one night stay as a couple I'm not sure we could really justify the £170 price tag. Unless you spend lots of time in the pool there isn't much more on offer than a nice B&B in a similar location, which would be half the price.
If you play golf (which of course is at an extra cost) or are happy spending hours in the pool then this would be great. However if you're likely to be out all day enjoying the South Downs and just use it as a place to stay you could probably get a cheaper deal elsewhere.
