The Star & Garter is a favourite. They take advantage of the fact they are near the coast and have a good selection of sea food. The white bait were a good size, moist and tasty. My husbands platter full fill every "food loving bloke's" dream - tasty cheddar, hunks of fresh bread, home made pork pie, a couple of slices of rare roast beef and chutney, washed down with a pint of Ballards Best. My crab salad was tasty and and had been hand picked and no shell in sight. There was a good choice of pudding which worked for me needing a dairy-free option. They serve Caroline's dairy ice cream - but after all we'd eaten 3 boules is quite a lot so you may want to share.
Some lovely walking in the area to build an appetite or walk off lunch.

This is situated in East Dean a small village on our walking route. Good food in a interesting country pub with pleasant service.

A weekend break from the city found us dining at The Star and Garter after a recommendation from friends living in the area. What a treat! Accurately cooked food from an understated menu coupled with casual yet professional service made for a fantastic evening out. Between the six of us we enjoyed local sourced pigeon, lemon sole, succulent fillet of beef (with an outstanding pepper sauce) and perfectly spiced cajun swordfish steaks. The kitchen delivered a faultless succession of dishes served by attentive, friendly staff. We will be returning!!

This restaurant caters for all tastes and apetites. Pigeon is highly recommended as is all the game. Good atmosphere and service and a good welcome. They seem to be able to maintain standards even when quiet or full.

My daughter treated the family to a meal here, having been recommended to her by colleagues at work. We went on a freezing cold December evening and I have to say the food was amazing, a very comprehensive menu and personal, friendly service. I have previously had a snack on Sunday lunchtime and the garden is beautiful - nestled on the South Downs. A thoroughly lovely experience.
