It seemed a little run down , children love it and do not notice these things. The restaurant was not very good , with little to offer.

We visited with a group of 14 adults with learning disabilities for about 5 hours. All the staff were extremely helpful and pleasant. Our staff and students all had a fantastic day enjoying all aspects of the visit. Highlights were the young man with birds of prey who took much time to interact with everyone individually and the museum. We understand that there is new fairly recent management who are committed to making the venue as attractive as possible. It may be that the position and intention of the place needs explaining to potential visitors to ensure their expectations are realistic. Visitors who dislike hand written signs (though they do the job very well), gardens that are not perfect (though they reveal interesting surprises round every corner) and a museum which is not posh (but is the most magical, simple and evocative one we've visited for a long time) will be disappointed. The massively varying opinions expressed on Tripadvisor indicate that it's not for everyone but for us it was a brilliant day out. Thanks to all involved.

Loced being in the butterflies , the place could do with a general spruce up and a lick of paint but we very much enjoyed the free fling avery with a very friendly ring necked parakeet who sits on your shoulder or on your lap and nibbles on your fingers :) so sweet

We had a publicity leaflet which sounded great but we (rather cynically!) expected less than it promised - how wrong we were! We visit many places with animal exhibits, & must say their accommodation & care at Earnley was superior to most. It was reassuring to see animals in a setting where they can 'do their own thing', rather than having their behaviour tailored to meet the expectations of (often ignorant) humans. We also enjoyed chatting with the gentleman who cares for them: it was evident he has a deep love of animals along with knowledge & expertise. Our favourite area was the bird house, as it was plain to see the birds are happy & safe there, especially "Reg" the parakeet who sat on our shoulders & clearly loves to interact with people. The fact that we didn't have time to complete our game of Crazy Golf (a pity as it looked a satisfyingly challenging course), is testimony to the appeal of the other attractions - e.g. (apart from Reg, of course) the highly absorbing Wreck exhibit & nostalgia museum - which took up our time. We did, however, take time to enjoy a tasty lunch in the clean & spacious cafe. We considered the entry fee very good value, in view of the huge amount of labour & money it must take to maintain a large site like this to such a high standard. We'll be going back whenever we're in the area, if only to visit our new pal "Reg"!!

I wish I had looked up this website before we went. I was very excited to take my young son, hoping it would be a lovely day out and a great sensory experience for him. The butterfly area was massively disappointing. There were quite a few butterflies, several dead ones laying around, it was so hot in there also. I hoped to take some good photos but it was so hot the camera kept steaming up. The bird area was also disappointing, a few cockatiels and other birds that looked unhappy and unkempt. I have kept cockatiels and they are normally friendly and like to interact but these hid in the corners away from the public. The gardens were poorly maintained, unwatered and full of tacky ornaments. The outside area had a portacabin with some artefacts. There were some swings and climbing frames for children and park benches. Enough to refresh you ready for the rest there was to see. There were a couple of random donkeys next to the play area. The reptiles were in tiny hutches and poorly maintained again. One of them seemed to be dead and looked like it had been for a while. The nostalgia museum was depressing. There was alot of tat and rubbish but some of the items were really good like old cameras and radios etc but they were displayed behind dirty old displays . We didn't brave the cafe or bother with crazy golf, so we took our picnic and sat in the car before travelling 2 hours back home.

I think whoever owns/runs it should feel ashamed for ripping people off!!! I personally want my money back!

Also it's not particularly pushchair friendly, most of the garden areas are so unkempt you couldn't get past.

We also found no toilets (let alone baby changing facilities) and only saw 1 member of staff on the reception, who also seemed poorly trained and answered several questions with 'I don't know'

Such a shame as it could be so much better, alot of the stuff was just random junk.

I am responding to poor reviews by posting a photo of recent entries in our visitor book which are self-axplanatory. Of course we have toilets and baby changing facilities which are clearly signposted.
