Fishbourne Roman Palace

Attraction details

It was over 30 years since I last visited this attraction. It was rather wonderful then, but now it is absolutely outstanding. Where else, for one entry fee, do you see a detailed exhibition of the way of life in the Palace? Have the option to enjoy 2 fascinating tours explaining the mosaics? Watch a 15 minute video about the Palace? Walk around the recreation of the adjoining Roman garden? See the model that shows the original extent of the Palace? Be free to wander along the walkways, admiring the details of the mosaics at your leisure? And, most exciting of all, be able to handle pieces of pottery, thousands of years old, from the Palace?
This was a wonderful afternoon visit, in a large, airy venue, on a chilly Spring day. Definitely worth a visit.

Well worth a visit - excellent free guided tour. If you like mosaics, you should also go to nearby Bignor Roman Villa which has even better ones (sadly not mentioned at Fishbourne)

Wonderful mosaics and I've discovered my new favourite fictional animal! The museum is very well done and its worth listening to the guided tour as you go through the main villa.

We went here after finding that Goodwood House was closed, but are glad we did, as it was very interesting and informative.

We thoroughly enjoyed our brief visit to the palace, especially the wonderfully informative guide, who conducted a tour of the major floors, which helped to make sense of what we were looking at and gave a great perspective on just how large the place was. Lots of young children seemed to be enjoying the hands-on nature of the exhibits, which was great.
