Recommended length of visit: More than 3 hours
Owner description: Step back in time at Amberley Museum, a remarkable heritage site in the Sussex South Downs, between Storrington and Arundel, focusing on industrial and transport history. Most days the bus service and narrow gauge railway run, which take visitors to the far end of the site where the electricity, communications and railway exhibition halls can be found. Further exhibits include the working printshop, lime kilns, road steam engines, standard gauge line, stationary engines, greenwood village and more. The Museum is home to traditional craftspeople, such as the woodturners and blacksmith, with a cafe, gift shop, playground, nature trails and picnic areas. It’s well worth a visit and there is plenty to do in all weathers. We are hosting over 50 events in 2017 from children’s activity days to classic vehicle shows; from the amazing Robotslive in July to our new art activity week in August. We open from 8th March to 29th October, seven days a week during Sussex school holidays and on Bank Holidays, otherwise Wednesday to Sunday. Right next to Amberley railway station, with direct trains from London, Bognor and Portsmouth (check before you travel), we have a large, free carpark. Please see our website for further information.

“Great Day Out”
Reviewed August 27, 2012

A quality day out. We spent nearly six hours there and still didn't see it all. Rode the train a few times, rode the bus a few times! Massive free car park.

Loads to see and do.

Others have said the cafe is a bit expensive; possibly, but the portions are a good size compared to a lot of tourist places.

“Brilliant hands on experience”
Reviewed August 26, 2012

We live in the area and always find it amazing and enoyable when we visit. My 2 young daughters love the double decker bus ride and having a look in the 2nd hand shop to find a bargain altho the gift shop is also reasonable priced. The museum through the different ages is very interesting even for the kids. Brilliant day out and reasonable priced!!

“A little expensive.”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

My husband and I took my 85 year old father here to a classic car event. If it wasn't for the car event, it would be a VERY pricey visit to a working museum. Definitely not worth the entrance fee.

“interesting exhibits”
Reviewed August 23, 2012

We spent an enjoyable day here despite the rain! They have numerous interesting exhibits - some interactive ones which our young teenage son enjoyed. Safe family environment - bit disconcerting to find items from childhood /youth in a museum - Trimphone! Good day out
