After many years of driving by and wondering what the G & D would be like, we finally stopped in for lunch on the 27th.

There were three of us and we arrived just after one to find the pub pretty full. However we got a table OK and ordered two of the Hoi Sin burgers and the Lambs Liver.

Our mark down is due to the fact that we had to wait nearly an hour for our food. This may have been down to our arrival time and the time of year but when it did arrive it was excellent.

The food was obviously freshly cooked and the portions were generous, so much so that we decided against dessert.

The decor and atmosphere were nice and the two ladies who served us were friendly and attentive.

Now that we know what to expect I'm sure we'll make it a point to stop in whenever we can. A summer visit will definitely be on the cards as there's a nice deck at the rear overlooking the Arun valley towards Amberley Castle.

Staying in Amberley we were looking for the ultimate Sunday Lunch, as we do always when we are staying away from home. We called into the G&D a few days before to look it over, would it be up to the mark? It looked good, so we booked for 2.00pm Sunday 9/12
Arrived to find a full car park and full pub. Really lovely atmosphere, big open fire with logs blazing away. Plus and all to rare these days a very good and warm welcome from the Landlord Gavin.
We were pleased to see one empty table - it was ours! Glass of red wine for wife and a pint of the excellent Ringwood Best Bitter for me to sit down and look at menu - so far so good, could the food match up to the what was still a proper pub, not the pretention of being a gastro!
I went for the beef, wife for the pork. I had the parsnip and coconut soup to start - excellent!
The very busy pub had diners all around us lookingveryhappy and content. The young staff togeather with splendid landlady Carol who was busy ensuring everything was all going to plan.
The mains arrived and they looked great and tasted eve better. Really tasty meat, rooast potatoes and plenty of veg. Just like my mum used to make, a really big dinner, super meat and I say again tasty! I had second pint of Ringwood which was a quite excellent supping bitter.
Too full for puddings, I just sat there contented and so full of admisation that this pub ticked all the right boxes.
On a bitterly cold winer Sunday, the warmth and atmosher inside was supberb.
But in the summer or on a good day the beer garden has views to die for.
If it wasn't so far from home in Cardiff, we would make this our local!
Highly recomended

We haven't visited this pub for over five years. It is now excellent. A very pleasant, old world charm. An outstanding welcome: greeted with a welcoming smile and menu. Very well staffed with well trained people: enough to ensure efficient as well as effective service.. A good menu with some outstanding specials. Good value for money. Wonderful location in the Arun Valley. Moreover the service and food were superb. We shall be back. It is now on my (very) short list of the best eating places in the area.
