Had a mid week evening meal for 3. The restaurant was 2/3 full. Environment is cosy and fine for intimate dining and tables reasonably well spaced. Menu is suitably short but with enough choice to ensure all meals well cooked. Staff were pleasant, quick and efficient. Starters were a small smoked cheese quiche with crisp pastry and tasty filling, wild mushroom soup that was well done. Mains were two of scallops and cod and one baked lemon sole. Sides were a gratin dauphinoise, chips and some mixed veg. Fish was perfectly cooked and scallops fresh and translucent. Sides were generous and the only minor criticism is that the mixed vegetables were in one bowl and lacked the presentation of all the other dishes. Seasoning was perfect and chef obviously good at fish. No desert taken. Wine was reasonably well priced and a good selection. Bill for 3 with 2 bottles of wine was £120 but £20 had been knocked off because restaurant has a deal that regulars (son has visited several times) can deduct price of one main course (all around £18-£20). A very pleasant evening with first class food.
