Owner description: St. Mary's Guildhall is one of the finest surviving medieval guildhalls in England, and has been one of Coventry's premier historic venues for more than 600 years. First built in the 1340s for the merchant guild of St. Mary, with its magnificent medieval interiors, and fine artworks the Guildhall offers a window into Coventry's glorious past. Once a prison to Mary, Queen of Scots, and even a playhouse where Shakespeare is thought to have performed, the Guildhall provides a fascinating free experience for all ages, at the historic heart of the city. St. Mary's Guildhall also offers a memorable venue for weddings, meetings, conferences and private functions, whilst in the vaulted undercroft beneath the Great Hall is the atmospheric Godiva's cafe, offering tasty, good value snacks and refreshments.

“Building was beautiful, staff made the experience excellent!”

First, I'd like to mention another person's posting how the lift 'thingie' looked out of place. Yes it does, but without it, my mother would not have been able to experience any of St. Mary's Guildhall. The people there made sure my Mom felt safe and talked with her as she went up the lift. When we realized there were many areas of the building Mom couldn't do because it required going up stairs, Mom told me to go up anyway. The man working there & his wife kindly kept Mom company as I explored the building & took pictures for Mom to see later. While I was gone, they gave Mom a wonderful history of the building. Even though Mom couldn't go up the rest of the stairs, it was a wonderful experience which both of us enjoyed.

btw, Tripadvisor-There was no category to fit for an adult female and her mother travelling, I had to put us down as a 'couple!'

I love St Mary's Hall. It's amazing that it stands today in such amazing condition and is lovely to see it so well preserved, although the stairlift thingie looks really out of place. The tapestry is stunning

“A hidden jewel in Coventry's crown”

All history is here, with amazing tales of royal visits and even the idea that William Shakespeare possibly came and performed here with his travelling players. The building inside is awe inspiring, the cafe friendly and you can even get married here feeling like a proper princess

“Fantastic setting and lovely for banquets and events”

I have visited the Guildhall on numerous occassions, I have eaten there at Christmas in a large group and most recently attended a huge vintage fair there. The surroundings are amongst some of the best in the city, close to the cathedral ruins and with their own fabulous courtyard it's very awe inspiring. Inside the hall is vast and with its historical stained glass windows and armour it feels like a place of importance. It's warm, centrally located and in my view the perfect venue for events.
