It is a delight to see interesting old buildings put to good use while retaining their character. A meal at The Establishment combines really good quality food and service with an overall experience that is one to write home about. Add to that the fact that it is directly opposite the signature cathedral and in a lovely cobbled area of the old city and it has the magic ingredients.
The main bar area is in the original court room, the main restaurant is in the original courtyard and then there are additional tables in a couple of former cells, complete with original doors and grill window.
The food choice is wide ranging but mostly close to traditional British dishes. They have a "pie of the day" which is a great feature was truly delicious. Our group of eight each ordered something different and everyone enjoyed their selection.
We were there on a Thursday night and were treated to some excellent live music played from in the bar area.
