Description: The name of this Wetherspoon pub recalls the fondly remembered motor car, part of a range of models made in Coventry, from 1903 until the 1960s. Standard's first car, the Motor Victoria, was built by Reginald Maudslay, in Much Park Street, in 1903. The 'Standard Nine' was launched in 1927. Inexpensive, at A£198, its success saw Standard through the 'slump', and it was still going strong when, in 1936, the Flying Standard models made their debut. Great building, lovely and clean. Bartender was really on the ball, but the guy who brought out the food was rude and seemed to be harried even though we where the only ones there.... food wasn't very good but it was cheap and arrived in 5 mins so what do you expect? Close to the shopping areas which is nice

Thank Laura B

I visited here on Saturday 17th August 2013 at around 10am for breakfast with my mates... I have to say first of all, outstanding builing and very clean pub. Foid was lovely and soaked up the night befores alcohol very well!! The thing that stood out for me was the banter behind the bar, 2 ladies were serving, both seemed to be managerial as wearing own clothes. They were both very efficient at their jobs and encouraging each other and customers in on the banter which was very nice to see, especially that time of the morning!!!! Will definitely be back!!! Thank you ladies for making us welcome and for curing our hangovers with laughter!!!

The Flying Standard is on two levels with a lower bar area and a higher diners area, and 3 or 4 steps in-between. My wife is a wheelchair-user and cannot use the steps to get to the dining area so we had to get one of the servers to open the fire-door and let her in that way. They were quite happy to do this - we have always found Wetherspoon's to be very helpful with regard to disabled customers.

We both ordered steaks, and while mine was OK my wife's was slightly overdone - but not enough to warrant sending it back. Overall, exactly what we expected from a Wetherspoon's.

We had the misfortune to call in here for lunchtime drinks. As the downstairs bar couldn't seat the 6 of us we went upstairs and squeezed in around a table for four.

Having decided what drinks we required my wife went to the bar. There was one bar staff on for the whole floor and he was totally inept. We eventually ordered 2 jugs of cocktails and 2 other drinks after he had fumbled his way through serving several other people. The cocktails took an age to make and were presented to us with no glasses. Immediately he had given us glasses a bell rung and he then proceeded to leave us in mid-order and serve meals to the tables for a good 10 minutes without a word of explanation or apology.

Half way through this period another barmaid appeared but despite our protestations she proceeded to serve anybody and everybody rather than finish our order.

The barman eventually returned and finished our drinks. By this time the whole charade had taken a good 20 minutes.

Pathetic service even for Wetherspoons.

A trusty Wetherspoon establishment which I cannot fault although any minor niggles can be directed to the chain's owner. Excellent service with all the usual expectations of a well run chain.
