My partner and I and another couple were booked into the Allesley Hotel for their New Year banquet. The banquet was very nice - good food and a really good atmosphere. However the hotel rooms were awful. Ther carpet looked like it hadn't been vaccuumed in months (toe nails clippings next to bed!), the bathroom floor was covered in hair and the whole room smelled of dogs. I complained to the reception staff and they sent somebody who vaccuumed the carpet but nothing else. My partner cleaned the hair off the bathroom floor as I was stressed out by this time. Our friends had the same problem. The shower curtain clings to your body when you try to have a shower - very unpleasant. The whole experience was really awful and I was so glad to get home the next day, wash my clothes and have a shower in my own clean bathroom.

i have stayed in hotels in many places - some old and basic, but never in anything as dirty as this. If it hadn't been New year we would have packed up and gone home.

This hotel will never see us again.

The carpet in the room was filthy, the bed was nothing but springs, the tv did not work, the lift was dangerous, shutting on my son and hurting him, the staff didn't seem that bothered. There was 1 towel for 2 people. It needs knocking down and rebuilding.

Having read the reviews before travelling, I was not expecting much. How do people write such damaging reviews, which none of the group I was with would have agreed with. I remember how the Allesley used to be in the 70's when it was the hotel in Coventry, it has lost a lot of it sparkle, but it is still a good value for money hotel. Staff pleasant and helpful. We had two rooms on the second floor and two on the fourth all rooms were larger than average hotel rooms and cleaned, and new towels etc. every day, all to a good standard. Breakfast was buffet so you could have as much as you like.

The hotel has excellant connections to Coventry City Centre and Birmingham whether it is the Airport or City Centre you require.

It was sad to see a good hotel with so few guests, probably not helped by so many negitive reviews.

Have to say that I was really disappointment during my stay especially with quality of service they provide. Employees were untrained and not very responsive.
The worst is that management was bluntly and unprofessional obviously couldn't give any good example to the staff.
The sheets smelled in the bed. They smelled as if someone with very bad body oder had just slept in them. The only positive thing was good, fresh breakfast but is not enough
to recommend this place to anybody else.

Our stay was for two nights on a half board basis.Upon arrival in a very pleasant comfortable reception area we were greeted by efficient helpful staff. The room allocated to us was on the third floor and reached by a maze of corridors and short flights of steps.Upon opening the door we found it to be quite spacious and adequate for our short stay. The bathroom was clean and the towels were spotless although somewhat small. The shower functioned extremely well which is always a bonus. Our beds were very comfortable and the bedlinen fresh but larger duvets would have been an improvement. The paper cloths on the hospitality tray were stained and the cups not properly washed and the coffee undrinkable. Someone had overlooked emptying the bin under the dressing table as they had also done in the bathroom.. In the evening we visited the dining room which looked inviting and from our point of view the food was excellent. A little more organisation on making sure there was adequate bread to go with the pate and soup courses would have been welcomed. The following morning breakfast offered a reasonable selection of juices, cereals and bacon, sausage, eggs and beans. There was toast if you had the time to wait for the somewhat ancient machine to produce it even if only on one side. Some refurbishment and efficient domestic staffing is certainly required here to bring it up to the more acceptable level
which guests expect.

Stayed at the Allesley on Saturday night as part of a coach party doing a trip to the NEC, Arrived early afternoon and the first impression is the smell - musty and damp. The hotel reception area is lovely and large with lots of comfy looking sofas. The bar is upstairs as is the dining room and again large and quite comfortable. The bedrooms are an entirely different matter. Ours was on the first floor and compared with those poor people on the third floor we were in apparent luxury. However, the curtains in our room hung on the barest number of hooks on the rail and the net curtain was dirty and had cigarette holes in. There was a double and a single bed. Double bed had a duvet the single bed had just one tatty blanket which didn't even tuck in the sides and the two spare blankets were tatty and grubby. As this was booked as a twin room for two girl friends having a weekend away, the blankets were having to be used. The bathroom although having lovely tiles up walls and floor was also grubby to say the least. There were two rusty holders with half used shower gel and liquid soap respectively, even the complimentary shower gel and shampoo were grubby and grimy to touch. The toilet was not clean and the bath panel was cracked and all things taken into consideration neither my friend or I could contemplate using the bath or shower. The towels and the bed linen were clean and good. The bedside light was a touch system affair which we struggled to get going but once having established that both sets of light switches at each side of the bed had all to be in the on position for anything to work coupled with the bulb having to be screwed into position, this was fine, until it came to touching the lamp to put it off. This resulted in a big bang and sparks flying in the air, this despite a sticker on the lamp saying it had been 'tested on 17.2.09'. The carpet was ok but was 2" away from the wall under the window showing that it had been laid on top of another older carpet and the 2" were then in a ruck just under the double bed so one had to be careful not to trip over this when walking round the bed. The poor members of the coach party, including the tour guide, had rooms on the third floor of the hotel which are apparently not often used and none of these poor guests could walk on their carpets without slippers, and the smell in those rooms was apparently dreadful. This was mentioned to the receptionist who offered to send up some air freshener sprays!!! The breakfast was good and the dining room is atttractive and well furnished but the cleaning is not good and Christmas tree needles were still in evidence. The restaurant staff were good but obviously not trained as evidenced by the request of the young man in a suit, who we believed to be the restaurant manager, we were asked to 'Give us your plate"!!!!!! All in all this hotel could be lovely but obviously not up to the task of two coachloads of people at any one time and there is also a complete lack of management and supervision or that smell and the cleaning problems would have been long dealt with.

We were with firends and stayed there on November .We had 2 rooms (group of 4) and were on 2 seperate floors. One of the rooms had already been rejected by someone else. No screen on the window and was overlooking the roof. The rooms were nothing to write home about ,very dirty and dated, bathroom was like from 70' night mare in pink!!There was no towels and asked for have to wait almost 2 hours to take a shower!! Price for rooms even dirty was affordable-Ł41 but quite far away from city centre. The receptionist was such a helpful and nice but as soon as artificial blonde manageress came around I noticed an unhappy change. The employees almost seemed scared of her. My husband and I definitely noticed a management problem. I thought to speak with her but was advised by staff not to do so because only guest in hotel that she speaking to is group of man from Jaguar group. Purportedly she's looking for husband. Good luck to her.Not the worst our stay but we left feeling sorry for some of the employees. We travel so much and can tell when we're at a happy hotel and this was not one.
