Description: JD Wetherspoon opened The Spon Gate in July 2010. It's name derives from one of the gates to the walled medieval city. Part of the city's SkyDome Leisure Complex it offers the perfect place to enjoy a meal throughout the day and a few drinks when visiting the ODEON cinema or after a bout of shopping at nearby IKEA. We pride ourselves on our food service, cleanliness and atmosphere we provide at any point during the day or night. Part of the Lloyds No.1 Brand, music is played in the evening and there is a live DJ Friday and Saturday meaning The Spon Gate provides a relaxed great value drinking and dining option while of an evening it transforms into one of the city's late night hot spots and a great place to party the night away till 3am at weekends!

We last visited The Spon Gate on the evening of wednesday 22nd August after seeing a film at the cinema next door. It was fairly busy at the bar but we were served in no time by a very friendly barman called Karl who was more than happy to make some recommendations from the menu and even brought my pint to our table after the barrel was changed. Our food was served promptly by a lovely young blonde girl who's name I didn't catch. Our meals were cooked perfectly and were very well presented and our table was cleared soon after we had finished.

We've never had a bad experience at The Spon Gate. The staff are always friendly and knowledgeable and the food is always top notch! We shall certainly carry on visiting this lovely pub.

We are going for a dinner there quite often, and we can recommend this restaurant to everybody : great atmosphere, nice place, clean surroundings, friendly staff, best food I ever got in Wetherspoon!! We are usually served by a lovely girl called Joseline, red hair girl. If you want to experience great customer service look for her!! Thank you for all lovely meals we got there!!

We visited on a Sunday lunchtime with our 2 children. On entering we were greeted with a friendly smile from the staff. there were plenty of free tables. I was a bit disconcerted at the bar as my feet stuck to the floor...maybe an extra clean is needed after a Saturday night?
Our 4 meals and drinks came to just over £30 - we all ordered adult meals and my husband had a large roast dinner, which he said was delicious. The food is good pub fare - it was all well cooked and generous portions. Beer was only £1.99 a pint - sadly I couldn't partake as I was driving. All in all, a very pleasant visit. Ideal if you are visiting the cinema as the Odeon is next door.

We noticed this pub on our way into Ikea and after an hour browsing the Billy bookcases we were in need of a drink and something to eat.
The pub was pretty busy for an early Thursday evening and contained a comfortable mix of families, couples and work colleagues. Inside the pub is vast and there were plenty of tables to choose from. It was curry night and my husband chose Chicken Tikka Masala with a pint of Carlsberg for £5.50. Being something of a gut bucket he supersized up and for an extra £1 got an extra samosa, bhaji and Bombay potato . The curry was nicely flavoured although the chicken could have been a little more tender but all round excellent value for money. I opted for the Superfood salad with Salmon and Balsamic vinegar at £7, it was delicious and at 558calories a perfect dish for a lady with her eye on her waistline! The staff were very friendly and our meal arrived within 10-15 minutes. All in all a lovely pub with a friendly atmosphere and good value for money. It would be great for a pre/post cinema drink/dinner as it is right beside the Odeon cinema.
