Good for: Families with children
Dining options: Dinner, Late Night
Description: This Wetherspoon pub is split over two floors, a bar/ dinning areas on the ground floor and a large dinning area on the first floor. We have a large entrance allowing ease of access. We provide a relaxed environment and are welcoming to everyone including families. Our name is taken from Leofric, Earl of Mercia, who founded St Mary's Priory, Coventry's first cathedral. A larger-than-life statue of Leofric and his wife, Countess Godiva, can be seen above the main entrance to the council house, opposite this pub.

“Pleasantly impressed..”
Reviewed April 22, 2013

As we went in it was nearly lunchtime and very busy ,but we were served very quickly .The staff were very polite and very efficient ,we were soon without drinks .Downstairs was packed which was nice to see ,so we went upstairs to find a table ( the only free one was dirty but the waitress quickly came to clean it ) ,which in fact has lovely views .Though we were not eating ,the menu looked impressive and lots of people were !!! It was nice to see a busy pub ,maybe the management need to think to employ more staff as they were rushed of their feet .Surprisingly there weren't people using the outdoor seating maybe its the English weather !!!

“Decent spoons, decent location”
Reviewed April 16, 2013 via mobile

There are a few spoons in Coventry, this one is a little more homely and friendly. Food what you'd expect, nothing to threaten a Michelin joint, but equally not expensive... Worth a visit!

“Friendliest 'spoon pub in Coventry”
Reviewed April 12, 2013

We just came here with friends for a few drinks and sat upstairs. The atmosphere is really relaxed and given there was a beer festival on, it was lovely to see that the bar staff are actually interested in their beers. We enjoy our ale and later on the manager came up and chatted to us, and inquired about how we liked the beers on offer.
These chain pubs are usually not bothered about the individual customers so it was a very nice touch to learn otherwise. The view from there of Coventry City Council House is lovely, too, and I think we'll be going there more often as great value, good range of beers and a genuine interest in the customers. Keep up the good work! I shall keep on recommending this place and will be back soon.

“Yet another Wetherspoons success”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

Another excelent bank conversion, but not by Wetherspoons. Not large but pleasant and quieter 2nd floor has view of the City Hall. The st floor is familier Wetherspoon with familier customers. Outside you will find the now common site of tables and chairs, where on a sunny day you can watch the world go by.

“I'm a changed man!”
Reviewed February 22, 2013

I surprise myself by writing this review BUT my opinion of J D Wetherspoons is hugely changed based upon my recent experiences there. I always thought it to be cheap and cheerful "pay for what you get" grub. IMO they have really upped their game, I had a steak and it was very good indeed - 14oz 35 day matured Aberdeen Angus - tasty, tender and the accompaniments were totally up to scratch. If you, like me, were a skeptic give JDW another try...you may be pleasantly surprised!
