Owner description: If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator. ***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

First time visit, great day out well worth the effort no entry fee but has a well stocked shop and the cafe is reasonably priced and has a good selection of sandwiches. Interesting exhibitions and enjoyed the land speed area. Kids loved seeing the cars that grandpa used to drive. Highly recommend a day out something there for everyone.

A couple of the exhibits were closed due to renovation work, but this was still a very enjoyable visit. The pure nostalgia of seeing a Jaguar just like my Dad had and being able to marvel at and touch the Thrust SSC made this a worthwhile trip in itself without all the other great exhibits. A great visit for all lovers of the great marques that Coventry was once famous for, mind you we stayed near the Jaguar engineering plant as well , shame you could not go round there as well !! would have been an interesting visit no doubt ! A thoroughly great place to visit and we really enjoyed our time there, would reccommend this to all petrol heads, just to wallow in nostalgic engineering excellence. Great !!!

This is a very good museum which doesn't charge entry fees - always welcome. It's undergoing a substantial improvement programme at the moment so a couple of the galleries were closed. This meant that the museum felt smaller than when we last visited many years ago. The exhibits themselves are very good although the presentation and signage need updating. Also the museum, probably quite rightly, seems to be geared very much towards children. There is a WW2 section and a walk through street scene as well as the amazing ThrustSSC which broke the land speed record in the late 1990's. The museum should be reopened in its entirety in Spring 2015 and we will revisit! The cafe looked very pleasant.

I visited the Transport Museum with my family and enjoyed it thoroughly. It's packed full of classic, old cars, bicycles, newer cars and even 2 land speed record vehicles. It also has a motorcycle exhibition but, sadly, it was closed during my visit. I'd wholey recommend this place to anyone! Families, couples, everyone!

There is definitely a lot to see around the museum, kids I'm sure will love it, as would car fanatics who want a nostalgic trip.

During our visit the exhibit of motorcycles was closed which was a shame.
