Owner description: If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator. ***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

If you like cars and have a couple of hours to kill near Coventry, then take a trip to the Transport Museum. It’s free, what’s not to like about that!

Being in the city centre parking could possibly be an issue for some, which was my main worry when travelling from Worcester. It’s not a million miles away, but even so, not being able to park when arriving would drop the anchor on our day out. We parked in the Belgrade Plaza multi-storey and walked a few minutes. For a Saturday, parking in the Belgrade was a breeze with plenty of free spaces. The entrance to the car park is off the main ring road (A4053). Not knowing that I headed to a side street, which was a dead end right behind the car park!

We found the museum pretty interesting, and they had some amazing old Rovers. Nothing special to most people I guess, but my dad used to work at Rover, so means a little more to me. They have a couple of old buses, some tractors, a good selection of Jags and loads of other old cars which I couldn’t even begin to remember the names of. They also have a display of old motorbikes AND pushbikes – quite a few of them in fact.

It didn’t take us long to walk around, mainly because we read very little of the information, and cars are not that interesting to most girls, so I didn’t want to bore my girlfriend for too long :D

“marvellous for the petrolhead”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

Excellent museum stuffed full of bikes, motorcycles, cars and vehicles produced in Coventry, when it was an engineering centre. Maybe wouldn't have paid to go in, Im not that interested in motor vehicles but for a free admission its brilliant. And cracking loos, well done the attendants!!

“Excellent transport museum with free entry”
Reviewed February 26, 2014

This is a free attraction and is close to the city center with lots of car parking and restaurants close to hand. There is a good variety of vehicles from Cars to Motor Bicycles and Buses to Tractors. There were some wartime vehicles on display too, and Jaguars modern day offering too. You can spend a little or a long time here, and as it is free (they do ask if you will buy a guide to support the work!), you could if pressed for time look round part and come back again.

Me and my friends went to the CTM and we really enjoyed seeing all the cars from the different time periods.
I definitely recommend everyone to visit at least once because it is just so fascinating.
