Owner description: If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator. ***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

Just returned from a couple of hours at the museum. Entry is free but you need to pay and park in a local car park. We went on a Sunday and was there for three hours and cost me £1.50 in the multistorey, probably a special Sunday rate. The museum took me about 5 minutes to walk there. The area has lots of signposts so finding the museum was easy. When we got into the museum at 10:30 it was already quite busy (most probably because it was pouring with rain). There were some very noisy "Hyper" kids charging around which I think parents should control.
The exhibits are brilliant and laid out very well with lots to see. There are both of the "Thrust" land speed cars on display as well as some tractors from Massey Ferguson, oh and lots of bikes. I took my wife with me and she is already talking about going back again.....it was that good !!
There is a gift shop as you are leaving in case you want a souvenir of your visit, oh and also a coffee shop. I cannot comment on the coffee shop as I didn't use it.
Overall a great way to spend a few hours enjoying the museum.
After the visit we had a look around the new shopping centre.....but that was a different story!!

Myself, husband and son visited the transport museum in late September. It's really well laid out and has an amazing array of vehicles. It offers free entry and is highly recommended for any vehicle enthusiast. Personally, I am not car mad but still appreciated the place. If you are in the area and have an interest, I doubt there would be disappointment.

This is a great museum for everybody, the cars are from every era with plenty of history to read about, there are buses and very old cars but also cars from the 70,s and 80,s that will take you back in time and if your of a certain age will enjoy reliving childhood memories, this museum is free to enter but if you wish you can give a donation , there is a gift shop and lots of olde time sweets to buy and enjoy and a good coffee shop that's not expensive.
