Owner description: If you're looking for a fantastic FREE day out for all the family, you can't beat Coventry Transport Museum. In the heart of Coventry city centre, this huge Museum is home to the world's largest collection of British road transport, and a visit whisks you away into a world of stories of real people, real passions and real hope. You'll discover the stories behind the people who made Coventry the centre of the world's motor and cycle industries, and get up close and personal with the actual vehicles that defined some of history's most important moments. The Museum is laid out as a journey through time - you'll wander 19th Century streets and discover the first bicycles, carriages and cars, then explore the first car factories and gasp as you witness their wartime destruction in the Blitz Experience. The journey continues through the Boomtown, Spirit of Speed and Ghost Town galleries to bring you right up to the present day.A visit to the Museum brings you face to face with Royal cars, military vehicles, and cars that played vital parts in their drivers' life stories - none more so than the current Land Speed Record holding vehicle, ThrustSSC, which lives at the Museum. Not only can you marvel at this spectacular piece of British engineering, you can experience for yourself what it's like to travel through the sound barrier at over 760mph in the ThrustSSC Simulator. ***Please Note*** Coventry Transport Museum is undergoing a major redevelopment programme during 2014 and the early part of 2015. The Museum remains open throughout this work but you are advised to check the Museum's website to see how your visit may be affected.***

Family day out today, undecided where to go and decided on the transport museum, very glad we did. The whole history of car manufacturing in Coventry over the years was totally fascinating and viewing the huge range of different modes of transport which were all nicely themed as you moved through the museum was very interesting. There were interactive sections for the children to touch and explore, the simulator was good fun. An Olympic torch also resides here. The children were in awe of the blitz experience.. Overall a really enjoyable three hours, the obligatory overpriced shop awaits at the end and we did not use the on site cafe so can not comment. The fact it is free entry is an added bonus, we would have been happy to pay, they do ask for a donation or to buy a guide book at £4.99. The simulator was £1.50 pp. Totally recommend it for all ages.

Visit this museum often and in my opinion it's the best if it's kind in the uk
If you are interested in transport and cars that were assembled in and around Coventry then this is a must visit place
Of course the other big plus is that there is no entrance fee Well done Coventry

We visited today and had a fantastic tour of vehicles and the history of Coventry. Being locals we are slightly humbled that we have missed this wonderful museum. I particularly liked the land speed record exhibit and the simulator. It is hard to believe that the museum fits so much into the space. I was fascinated by the scooters as I know both my mum and dad had one! A fabulous visit and totally free! Also, a chance to shop in Coventry or a visit to the wonderful Cathedral could follow. Well worth the visit. Parking near the Belgrade Theatre saves the long wait in the centre car park.
