I've been coming here since I was little (now nearly 40) as I used to live nearby. It's much better than it used to be when the buildings were ruined and the playground consisted of a concrete pipe and a slide! There are now bbq areas, places to fish, gravelled paths, a few shops and a good children's adventure playground. There's lots of open space for football, cricket and running around, places to explore, the hotel is a beautiful backdrop and the lake and gardens are very nice. Lots of places to picnic and play and kids will love it. HOWEVER, make sure you go to the loo before you come because the toilets in the main public building by the car park are disgusting and let the place down. Urine and used toilet paper all over the floors and toilet seats, leaking urinals that have stained the walls, obviously not checked or cleaned regularly. Also, what's the point of having a low sink and hand dryer for kids when the sink's so wide they can't reach the taps and the only soap dispenser is too high to reach? Having said that, the filthy state of the facilities suggests that neither are used much anyway. I was loathe to take my 3 year old in these vile toilets. Even he commented that they were "stinky" and he wasn't wrong!
