“Go to the loo before you go...”
Reviewed June 16, 2014 via mobile

I've been coming here since I was little (now nearly 40) as I used to live nearby. It's much better than it used to be when the buildings were ruined and the playground consisted of a concrete pipe and a slide! There are now bbq areas, places to fish, gravelled paths, a few shops and a good children's adventure playground. There's lots of open space for football, cricket and running around, places to explore, the hotel is a beautiful backdrop and the lake and gardens are very nice. Lots of places to picnic and play and kids will love it. HOWEVER, make sure you go to the loo before you come because the toilets in the main public building by the car park are disgusting and let the place down. Urine and used toilet paper all over the floors and toilet seats, leaking urinals that have stained the walls, obviously not checked or cleaned regularly. Also, what's the point of having a low sink and hand dryer for kids when the sink's so wide they can't reach the taps and the only soap dispenser is too high to reach? Having said that, the filthy state of the facilities suggests that neither are used much anyway. I was loathe to take my 3 year old in these vile toilets. Even he commented that they were "stinky" and he wasn't wrong!

Dear Wayne,

Thank you for your review. We are so glad that you enyoyed your visit and impressed with most of the park facilities including our play facilities which we are very proud of. However I am sorry to hear that you were disappointed with the toilet facilities in the Visitor Centre and the conditions that you descibe are not what we would want our visitors to encounter. We have a dedicated Visitor Services Team who check and clean the toilets hourly in the summer season and every two hours in the winter season. They will also respond immediately to any reported problems. The suggestion that they are not used regulaly seems to be at odds with the conditions you found them in despite regular cleaning, we know that there is quite heavily use of these facilities in between some of the scheduled cleans, particularly as many of our visitors spend the best part of a day here. If you do come across these conditions again when you visit, please do let us know in the Shop/Information Centre and the facilities will be checked and cleaned immediately.

We look forward to welcoming you back again.

Kind Regards

Had a fabulous day out with lots of the family. A beautiful walk through the woodlands, lots of fun in the play parks with the kids and then back to have a BBQ near the car park. Great fun!!
