I stayed at this Hotel after a business meeting. the room was booked via Internet. The rooms are cheap but very dated. The hotel is in need of refurbishment. I will not say here again, the room was noisy at night.

We booked a double room but were given a twin. The woman working at the front desk said that was our fault because we booked the wrong one. After showing our reservation for a double room she said she would give us a smoking room while we specified on the booking that we want a non-smoking room! We had to change to another hotel in the end! If they can not provide the room you booked why dont they let you know beforehand? Plus the woman was really rude and would not admit it was the hotel's fault. TO AVOID!

I have just returned from a 4 day National holiday staying at the Britannia, it looks so drab from the outside, but very pleasant inside. reception staff very helpful & cheerie. Room even though decor was very old it was clean, warm, bed very comfortable and the room was cleaned every day with folded towels & toiletries, plenty of tea & coffee, milk even biscuits. Meal times considering so many people not many hiccups, plenty of choice & food was excellent, bit chaotic at breakfast but staff very friendly. Entertainment at nite. Our stay was fab, Thanks would i recommend it Yes!
Do i have any recommendations for the hotel, only 2. Please make available hot tea & coffee in the lounge for guests on late evening meal sittings- always cold. Replace the rude bar maid
Other than the above two enjoyable stay.

just returned from a four day stay at the hotel, booked a double room and got a twin, went to the front desk and asked if we could have a double as booked, not helpful at all as well as rude. The room, good size but the decor was out of crossroads season 1. Toilet was dirty with waste stains on, blob of chewing gum stuck to tiles above the bath. hair dryer in room did not work, tv stand nearly collapsed when i turned the tv on, mind you them rediffusion sets are heavy. Constant noise from outside due to motorway and bus station. Restaurant staff worked off their feet and polite, food to be honest would be ok if more attention was paid in the kitchen, most of the food is served in big pans and not a hotplate, most of the time, especially breakfast the pots are left to go empty because no-one from the kitchen is there to keep an eye on things, sticking a bulb over a pot does'nt keep in hot. The bar, rum and coke in a small glass with coke just short of the rim, £4.15, enough said. know doubt some will say thats what you get for that price, to them i say you have not travelled and you can be happy with your low standards, the rest of us will vote with our feet, we will not use this hotel again.

Room Tip: go to another hotel

Have stayed at The Britannia twice this year to check out the hotel before organising a group booking for approx. 100 linedancers. I too read the reveiws which were not complimentary. Yes the hotel does look a bit drab from the outside, it is in the city centre and built of what appears to old style concrete slabs. My stay was in January and October this year. We were made very welcome on arrival and the reception staff were very friendly. To them we were just travellers they did not know my reason for visiting. Rooms on both occasions were spotlessly clean and fresh with all the usual provisions. The balcony was not very appealling and we did not open balcony doors. As for service, food and quantity we have no complaints whatesoever and will be visiting again next January. The hotel bar could do without the very loud disco but I am sure this would have been turned down had we asked. If any one is unhappy about a room speak to the manager and I am sure it will be put right.

I have just returned from a four nights holiday with 'The National Coach Holidays' staying at this hotel. On arrival my heart sank, the exteria looked drab and uninviting, imagine my surprise on entering, the foyer was clean and tidy the deskstaff were pleasant and helpful. We had requested a room on a high floor to which we were given, the large twin bedded room was very clean the bedding lovely and white, the lovely clean bathroom consisted of a white bath, shower and a hand shower for washing ones hair complete with a range of soft white towels plus soap shampoo etc.and the toilet was immaculate. Evening dinner was 7pm the starter was served by a pleasant waiter the rest of the meal was help yourself buffet style, every evening we were offered a choice of three main meals and three choices of dessert with tea or coffee. The only downfall there was no entertainment, okay the bar was open and we had to entertain ourselves but for the price we paid we did not expect the Ritz , I can honestly say hand on heart I give the Brittania ten out of ten for the effort they put in from the daily cleaning of our room to the service we received in the dining room ensuring we had a happy holiday. For all those who complain I must have been in a different hotel to them.

Room Tip: The higher the floor less noise from outside

Had 4 day stay here as part of a coach tour package.
Only good thing was the very hard working staff which I cannot fault.
Arrived here with 28 other adults and my sister and dealt with efficiently as reception staff had names on envelopes with key cards. Reception looked shabby and dark but we thought this may be due to the hotel entrance being under a bridge opposite a busy bus station.
Our twin room on the fifth floor was dated with a dirty sofa which could have simply been removed. The view of Coventry Cathedral was masked by filthy windows and a stained ripped net curtain. The small ancient T.V actually worked as did the old hairdryer . Plenty of storage space , clean bedding and towels but ripped bed base , dirty carpets and cigarette burns on the large vanity unit in the bathroom made Room 535 memorable. Unbranded tea /coffee and cheap toiletries were generously replenished daily and the room quickly cleaned, but not enough to mask stale smoke and dampness.
The worst thing by far =food. Breakfast... cheap salty bacon, greasy croissants , fruitless jam........... cheaper than cheap nasty food. Only had this meal once as Sainsburys 50 yds away kept me alive for the rest of the trip.
Dinner - help! will really appreciate hospital food if I ever need it.
Day 1. Both had starters of Tuna Salad .Catering pack of lettuce leaves , Teaspoonful of nasty fish which would have made a cat heave , drizzle of oily salad cream , a segment of over ripe tomato and one.. yes one slice of cucumber. On my side plate was half a slice of white?
grey bread unsure whether it was mouldy or just dropped on the floor, not poppy seeds!
Mains. Looking forward to Lasagne. Joined long dinner queue as there was only one stressed person to serve us all. Then SLOOOOOP on the plate it went. I could have helped myself to stewed carrots, green beans and greasy roast potatoes but decided this would do. A mouthful of nasty cheap mince and floury sauce made me pray that the supermarket would still be open.Never mind a selection of goodies from the dessert trolly may sweeten me up. Sorry.... no such luck. Horrid catering cakes would make Iceland brands near gourmet. Tried a spoonful of tinned fruit cocktail and "cream" which would be ideal to pre- treat walls. Coffee tasted nice but lukewarm. No complaining as the 2 waitresses were running round as though they were being chased by lions and kept their cool ... excellent. They had our sympathy.
Day 2 missed breakfast and stayed 5 mins at dinner time. Cheap, nasty vile food ... my last guest appearance.
Unable to venture out at night ... uneasy chilling place. Had drink in bar . Very cheap - again polite attentive staff , but not the place for 2 women.
Just 1 last comment.
7am.Our fire alarm started bleeping, so being on the 5th floor and hearing the clang of fire doors shutting we ran down 5 flights of greasy old fire escape stairs , landed beside an old grotty kitchen where a member of staff said that it was "just the toaster". Took a filthy old goods lift back upstairs and the next time we put on the kettle the same thing happened again!
Unforgettable.
Need senior management to stay here for a week with their families . Eat the food , stay in the bedrooms , observe hard working , polite , skeleton staff,. THEN ... PLEASE improve the place for everybody.

Room Tip: Room 535 was quiet . Others near the bridge .. heard reports that you could hear cars changing gear.
