“What can you say??”
Reviewed November 30, 2006

Part of the Britannia Hotel chain, this hotel about upholds the standard of the chain.
I have to agree with the comments made so far - do not book this hotel for anything other than a one night in/out stay if you are flying from Birmingham airport.
Myself and partner stayed prior to our hoiliday. The outside of the hotel dosn't look too bad in the dark, however when you see it during the day everything becomes clear.
Firstly, the pro's - it is easy to get to, it is very cheap and they have a big car park and our car was still there on return.
The con's - formerly a Forte property and has not been touched since. It needs around £1 million or more spending to bring it into the 90's never mind 2006. Beds are uncomfortable, rooms not really clean and freezing cold.
The bar is like a working mens club (bright lights and net curtains) you expect the bingo tickets to go on sale at any time - if only, that would provide some entertainment at least. Got so fed up asked reception where the nearest pub was (10 minutes walk was more like 20) -however The Elms in Allesley village is lovely. Did not dare eat in the hotel restaurant.
At check out the night porter was not impressed that I had rang the bell and woke him up to hand in the key - apparently you do not have to check out, just drop the key in the box,
Excellent taxi service to the airport however.
In short, if you only need somewhere to stay overnight before flying and are not willing to pay for the Crowne Plaza or Hilton (or even the Quality) then choose this hotel as a last resort.

Stayed here on a business conference and was immediately knocked back by the official room rate of 145 pounds. The Hotel is a grey, concrete tower block off the A45 and is not particularly attractive. The reception is very 70s / 80s as are the rooms which are very hot and stuffy and could do with a desperate makeover but were cleanish apart from a selection of dead flying insects on the window cill. The good points are that the staff are very helpful / friendly and the food at the evening meal and the lunches we had was quite nice. The worst points would be the rooms which are in need of a total overhaul (bathroom tiles cracked , grouting getting increasingly black with mould and horrible looking air extractor type thing just next to the toilet which had lots of fluff, dust and dead flies stuck to it, beds a bit lumpy and the windows need a good clean) and the reception / bar toilets which are appauling and very smelly with revolting dark green tiling effect which became more nausius everytime i saw it.
Would i stay here again? probably not and definately not if i was paying for it myself although you should go and look at it if you are interested in looking at achitectural mistakes from the 70s and 80s.
