We went as part of a National Holiday and the hotel was OK. The room was clean, spacious and WARM which is more than can be said of the lounge area, dining room and bar area, it was FREEZING. The place is just a wind tunnel which wasn't helped by the fact that the main doors blew off the before we arrived day and weren't fixed properly and there was a power cut during the Saturday night which meant that even the rooms were cold because the heating had to come up to scratch again. A lot of people went to bed on the Friday night to get warm and so missed a very good entertainer. The food was mediocre, the cooked breakfast was cold, the mushroom pasta was completely tasteless and we were the guinea pigs for the christmas dinner which was all right except that all the veg was frozen. And the coffee in the restaurant was diabolical - nobody could drink it. It was an all inclusive holiday so at least we could drink to warm ourselves up.

Room Tip: Room 424 was spacious and clean, except the bathroom could do with a bit of an update,

a one night stay with dinner, bed and breakfast was only £35 (+£2 for credit card), with a free bottle of wine thrown in! It unfortunately looks like a 1960's block of flats from the outside and it needs serious refurbishment on the inside. Staff friendly, dinner OK but breakfast... give it a miss-greasy cheap and nasty. It is a good location for the NEC and airport, it is a shame Britannia Hotels doesn't recognise this and put some money into it. As a one night to save travelling it probably works, but not highly recommended.

We stayed here on a trip to NIA to see Spanish Riding school. Bar was clean friendly and surprisingly cheap for drinks. Evening meal was very nice, we had turkey roast, veg was hot, and plenty of it. Waiting team were friendly and quick.
Room was bit cold when we went in but radiator soon sorted that. Bathroom let room down, shower head was very dirty, rest of bathroom was fine thou. Basic room, but did us well, bed was nice and firm, big and we had great nights sleep. Out of way so no drunks shouting.
Would stay here again

We booked this hotel for 1 night for a visit to the NEC having stayed previously we knew what to expect. The room was a little dated, the wallpaper edges were lifting, & shower curtain rail was really rusty, but to be honest as we got bed breakfast & evening meal for 2 for £55 & the food was excellent we were not dissapointed the bed was comfy & we had a good nights sleep all in all good value for money but really only good for a 1/2 night stay. You won't need an alarm clark as the noisy central heating will wake you up early enough!!!
Very surprised they still have smoking rooms though???

Yes we booked a budget hotel & were not surprised to find worn carpet & peeling wallpaper. As expected for £24 for the room. No complaints for that to be fair. BUT what you don't expect is to be woken up at midnight by the night porter opening your room and switching the lights on! He did say sorry he thought the room was unoccupied & left. I was in such shock I couldn't sleep. What made this experience worse was when we tried to leave the next morning we couldn't. The night porter on his way out had double locked our room From the outside & there was no door handle or even key hole on the inside to get out. We had to call reception to come open the door, this took 5 minutes. What if there had been a fire that night? We were on the 5th floor we would have died. Unlikely yes but unacceptable to have a porter open our door then unbeknown to us lock us in that room all night. Absolutely appalling with a feeble apology & nothing more the next day. Having tried to directly complain to customer services (they don't seem to exist in the chain of Britannia Inn) I wonder if a poor trip advisor review could prevent a future death? Why do these hotels have no internal mechanism to get out of a room in such circumstances? A turn lock inside or even the keyhole not bolted over with a metal plate to allow the key to unlock seems a reasonable safety measure. This room had nothing just a flat door with handle that didn't over ride the double external lock. Shocking & wrong. I highly recommend not staying in any hotel where this could happen. I have never been one to go on about Health & Safety but firstly night porter did not knock (what if I was on my own? This porter was on his own - he was a big bloke its a sobering thought! I'd have left there & then) & secondly to be then locked in without realising is beyond even the most sceptic H&S haters. Enough said.

Room Tip: our room was on the third floor of eight at the front, there was a little road noise but not to bad...
