“Great afternoon tea but poor service”
Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

I came to coombe for afternoon tea with some friends yesterday. The scones were amazing! One of our group who had been before mentioned it was different to last time which is encouraging for another visit. The sandwiches were a little boring but fresh and the cakes were great.
The garden restaurant is beautiful although it did get a little chilly.
My only negatives were service based which is a shame. It took a while standing at the door before we were seated. I asked for fruit tea and water echo the server said she would look for. The water didn't come and neither did a fruit tea. I'm sure there would have been some for the rooms.
When the bill came there was an extra person on there which then seemed to take a lot of calculations to remove!
The place is stunning though and I would love to stay in one of the themed rooms. We are already talking about the possibility of a banquet stay so fingers crossed the service will be up to scratch then

Although we live quite close, we decided a night out at Coombe for our wedding anniversary. We stayed in the Lindley Suite overnight which is beautifully decadent. We had champagne, flowers & chocolates provided. The service could not be faulted and dinner proved a wonderful experience. I could not see any accolades by way of Rosettes or Stars in the restaurant but I guess these would be easily won. This was not our first visit, we previously stayed in the Lady Craven Suite. These Grand Feature rooms are not inexpensive but for that special event cannot be beaten.

Room Tip: Simply ask reception for their recommendation based on your needs.

My partner and I stayed for one night following a medieval banquet. The rooms are impressive and the staff are polite and helpful. The hotel itself is well presented, is steeped in history and is kept very clean.
The actual banquet was great fun and highly recommended. Eating with your fingers is all part of the fun although they will provide you with cutlery if you really wish.
I was slightly disappointed by the hot breakfast which was only really tepid. I suspect this was just down to timing really and not the normal standard though.
You could stay room only and drive into the nearby village of Brinklow where you can find a fantastic breakfast and more at Pumpkins Delicatessen on Broad Street. This is not open on a Sunday though!

Went to Coombe Abbey with our friends 1st November 2013. We were in 3 of the themed bed chambers. When we first went into the room, we were totally blown away - the décor and furnishings were amazing and really in keeping with the era [hard to believe we were in a relatively new building]. They were so luxurious, comfortable, spotlessly clean and the staff were very friendly, efficient and helpful. Can't wait to stay there again.

Have stayed in this glorious hotel once before - the facade and public areas are breathtaking and the medieval banquets are a must. The hotel appeared to be absolutely packed for this recent stay - which resulted in long waits and a disappointing breakfast experience - although the staff did their best to remedy this. One hint for the management - we were in room 60 in the Park priory which is a well equipped disabled room For a wheelchair user this would have been fine - but for 2 fit active, tallish people it really wasnt ideal. There was no bath - just a disabled shower - and the sink is set for wheelchair access so was much too low for comfort. This room should be reserved for disabled guests and not used for normal bookings. However - fabulous hotel and will go back.

Room Tip: see above - dont have room 60 - but all other rooms I have seen are great.
