“Wonderful hotel packed full of history”
Reviewed November 24, 2011

On arrival driving down the long approach road I wasn't ready for the spendour that is Coombe Abbey Hotel. I thought that I was staying at a stately home. The hotel is fabulous, it is packed full of history complete with a bridge & moat. The entrance hall is dark & like entering a castle. Staff very helpful & pleasant. I had a ground floor room with a 4 poster bed which was gobsmacking as I wasn't expecting anything like it. The room was great & I loved it. Heating was full on & reception asked a porter to attend to it which he did at once. I ate in the restaurant which was a great experience, food was gorgeous. Good thing about ground floor room was that it had french windows so that I could sit outside and have a cigarette & was caught on camera when the security light came on when I opened the doors.
I stayed for 2 nights & am already planning on staying again next year it is one of my favourite hotels that I have ever stayed at, 6 stars.

Room Tip: I liked my ground floor room as I could go outside for a smoke but I am told that all of the rooms a...

What a fantastic experience ! I booked the romantic package for my husbands 50th birthday as surprise. It included flowers, chocolates & champagne and a feature room. We had room 138 and it was spectacular ! The hotel was very dark, but I felt that this all added to the ambiance. The staff were all helpful and friendly and couldn't do enough to help you. The food was spectacular. We had a menu included in our deal, but chose some of the food from another section, and this was just added to our final bill. I really feel this was great value and would highly recommend this to anyone that likes history and a romantic night away !!

Room Tip: We stayed in room 138...I understand from the staff that strange ghostly encounters had been seen in...

This hotel is not fit for business stays...Rooms are incredibly dark with only a stool to sit on. The service was very poor with unhelpful staff not willing to compensate. Altogether a very disappointing experience.

I loved the room and the hotel! My room was large with a hidden bathroom behind a wardrobe door. The room was very clean and the bed was amazing! Went to a banquet the entertainment was great all the actors/actresses were so friendly and lovely but the food was shocking who wants to eat a jacket potato with there fingers? I only had a little food as I don't like meat of the bone but I ate a little to try it and thank god I diddnt eat it all, as a few hours later I had a bad tummy followed by sickness and the big D I'm not the only one who got I'll from our party we are all from different area so it can only have come one place! So overall stay here the rooms are quite speacial but take your own food!!!

Absolutely loved this hotel - the room was amazing, the bathroom hidden in the cupboard and the four poster bed very comfy. The service was excellent and the setting it was in was beautiful.

There were two weddings and two parties at the Abbey when we stayed but weren't distrupted by them and couldn't hear them from our room.

Big thumbs up!

I vivited Coombe Abbey for a function in October, we used many of the rooms for our conference one of which was freezing (the back door was left open).

Food was really goo, hot and well presented. I stayed inthe newer building which was decorated to the same style of the old Abbey, a bit like an american theme park.

The bed was comfortable, and the rooms very clean and in good order, free wi-fi all over the facility but only gripe was little or no mobile signal (not the hotels' fault)

Would I stay here again? Yes, I will consider taking my wife away to this hotel for a romantic weekend (saw some good offers in the net too)

Room Tip: bring a torch, as its a bit dark :-)

Once again good service and good food. Decided this time to stay in a 'feature double' room overlooking the moat and garden rather than the over-priced and über-camp Netherfield suite in the new block (with a boring courtyard view) and not much difference in terms of comfort (unless you have time to use the slipper bath and steam room in the latter) but huge difference in price saving! The rooms continue to be overly dark but there are plenty of lights (if you can find the switches in the dark) - one for the desk and another for the closet as well as one each side in the bedhead for example so not as bad as some reviewers make out.

My tip- don’t pay for the ‘romantic’ package – it isn’t!!! - just a rip off unless of course you like mediocre champagne, are happy with a box that contains 4 chocs and flowers that consist of an arrangement in a wicker basket (the sort of thing that you’d give granny on Mother’s day), mostly made up of foliage and daisies and not a rose in sight. Last time my partner paid for a teddy bear and it was obviously a reject as the label had a semi-circular incision and the poor bear had 2 left legs! So you are better off getting a bouquet from Sainsbury’s, bringing your own chocs and ordering a decent bottle of bubbly.
