I stayed for a night in this hotel on the outskirts of Coventry in a twin room. There is ample parking and the hotel is very grand from the outside. The reception staff were really efficient and friendly. Our room was really large with a lovely big bathroom, but overall I got the impression things were a bit neglected and cou, d do with an update, our lock on the door was temperamental, and the decor a little aged. Other areas of the hotel were a bit tired too, which is a shame as it could be such a grand affair. On the plus side, it's nice and clean and warm and both the breakfast and the room it was served in were lovely, as were the staff. Would I stay again? Yes, but I wouldn't have been happy if I had paid full price.

Dirty room, old broken furniture, room a death trap as window nailed shut from outside. General manager aggressive, defensive and said to me quote "what do you expect, you get what you pay for" also when Asking why the rooms are not the same as te pictures on web site " there just the best rooms we use no one ever stays in them every hotel does it" REALLY!!!!! See her response to other complaints her attitude is appalling as is the head office apparently once you've complained to the manager you cannot escalate further, really watch me!! HSE about nailed shut windows, telegraph about conning the public, Facebook, Twitter, group on about putting there name to this hotel chain deal......also a letter to MR Langham the owner and legal advice on next steps this was false advertising and I was duped into what to expect, I look forward to your delightful reply manager.

This was bought as a groupon offer for xmas for myself and my husband, room, evening meal with a bottle of house wine and breakfast. As we walked into the hotel the reception area is large, clean and attractive, marble floors and high ceilings, looked lovely, reception staff where friendly, took our details and gave us our key, we where stopping in a room in the old part of the hotel on the second floor...
The room was dated and dirty and not maintained at all.the bathroom was dated, flooring was coming up all around the bathroom, nothing was very sturdy, bath looked as tho it poo in it, old dated shower which took forever to get the temperature correct, burnt myself several times, glass shelf above sink was unstable, hot water tap was impossible to turn on. Toilet roll was like sand paper. The room had very dated old broken furniture, the bed was at the end of it's life, and want comfy at all. Wallpaper coming off the wall, stains all over the carpet, windows where screwed shut from the outside, so no air in the room. Really disappointed with the standard of the room for such a large hotel chain. They need to spend some money on their rooms, I will not be returning to this hotel ever again and will ensure everyone I know will not goo there either.
The only positive was the staff where friendly and the food was basic but ok.
You have been warned!!!

The positives are the location was convenient, the room was a pleasant temperature and we had a good nights sleep for a very reasonable price. The building is a mixture of an old house (see picture) and a more recent conference centre which has been awkwardly adjoined to it. This makes the hotel quite large and having booked 3 rooms simultaneously they were well spread out with one in the old house and 2 on separate floors in the newer part. As noted in other reviews the place is a tired and worn, though the carpet in the double room was new and the furniture adequate. We weren't tempted to try the food but found a good Indian restaurant nearby.

Would recommend for a cheap overnight stay, but if you want a bit of luxury or good service I would suggest looking elsewhere

I booked this hotel as part of a Wowcher deal, the photos of the hotel look amazing however do not be fooled by these pictures as you will be very disappointed. Upon arrival the reception area does look spectacular with the marble floors but you quickly start to notice things are quite so good. We were staying in one of the best rooms, thank god I opted to pay £10 more to stay in one of these as I would have hated to be in one of the worst rooms. The whole hotel was very dated, carpets were smelly, ceilings tiles were broken and the place was just falling apart. When we got in our room we were further disappointeds as it reflected the rest of the hotel, we only had 1 towel and the spa bath was very dirty and cracked, it was in need of replacement. Later we went to check out the spa which was overcrowded and definitely not a relaxing spa atmosphere, it's basically a swimming pool with windows overlooking the bar area so everyone can see you, then has a whilpool hot tub, sauna room etc - not exactly the relaxing atmsophere of a spa that you would expect. We had previously stayed in the Raddison in Manchester and that was the most beautiful spa so this failed to live up to standards.

Furthermore when we arrived, I asked the receptionist about dinner times as we had dinner as part of our wowcher deal. She told us to simply turn up to the restaurant and then it was a buffet dinner. So when we did turn up, we got told that we should have booked a table in advance, there were no tables left and she would have to check with her manager if we could eat in the bar area. This hotel has so much space but the restaurant area is small, they could easily extend into the bar area. We ended up sitting in a corner freezing cold eating our tea on a table which was very low.

To be fair the lady sorting the restaurant tables was very helpful, absolutely lovely and ensured that we did get our meal. We did have to wait for our knives and forks though so our tea was cold by the time that we eventually could eat it. The food wasn't bad though and the chef's should be credited for that.

It was meant to be a romantic weekend away however it was the worst hotel stay ever, we did see the funny side of it in the end but I will never stay in another Britannia hotel ever again. A hotel chain as big as them, I am sure that they could spend some money in restoring this hotel because if they did then it would make a beautiful hotel. It has so much potential but unfortunately has been poorly looked after.

I am not surprised that they need to use Wowcher to con people into coming to this hotel as it is simply terrible and after visiting another Britannia hotel Norbeck Castle, Blackpool recently for the day for a dance competition it seems to be a running theme for Britannia hotels! I certainly won't be staying in another one!

Room Tip: Go for the most expensive room as you will need to!
