Royal Court Hotel - Coventry

There are two things very wrong with the Royal Court, firstly the corporate ownership is only interested in the bottom line of the balance sheet and secondly the excellent staff are seriously undervalued. At a recent 3 day event the hotel was found to be very suitable for our needs, the staff couldn't have been more pleasant or helpful, there's just not enough of them. The requirements were very diverse but were met admirably. In particular the Dinner on Saturday night could not be faulted with very fast and professional service. Yes the fabric of the hotel requires at lot of TLC but this is not the fault of the staff although they have to bear the brunt of the public's comments.
Come on Britannia Hotels Ltd, look at the gem of a building in what could be a lovely setting you have and do something about improving it all. Appreciate your staff more and give them the support they need.

My parents stayed in this hotel on a Travelstyle holiday and I write this review on their behalf -
After being offered 3 rooms we took the latter. The first one hadn't been made from last occupants, the second one had one single bed in it. The third one was 'just acceptable' but in no way would pass hotel inspectors as carpet around furniture was an inch thick in dust.
Asked for extra pillows, was told they hadn't got any so reception staff went to get pillows from a different room.
Our friends room had ivy growing through the window and over the window panes making it very dark.
A dog convention was taking place and as we suffer from asthma had we been given this information we wouldn't have stayed there.

Room Tip: There is no good room! Don't go!

Be advised, they allow dogs to stay here, the room opposite us had 2 or 3 dogs, the owners choosing to take them 'walkies' at around 1.00 am in the morning and unable to control the yapping barking, we had little sleep that night. First hotel I've known that has dogs to stay. Some kind of dog convention. I didn't count how many dogs I saw, I wouldn't return the thought of being given a room that has been used by dogs doesn't appeal to me.
How hygienic?
I must add I had no other complaints about the hotel. Obviously they are targeting dog lovers.

At a glance, the place looks beautiful.....it's only when you get out of the car and walk to the reception area do you start to take in just how neglected the place really is.
Filthy, worn and outdated. Dog ends and broken glasses and bottles strewn everywhere you look.
The grounds are poorly maintained. The building is shabby. The staff are run off their feet with no hope of providing an adequate service. It may look grand but it was a complete let down.
The restaurant was more like a cheap carvery gaff.
The pool and changing room area was disgusting. Filthy, smelly and every locker was broken. Mould and moss growing on the windows of the pool area. The tiled floor was slimey with old dirty water.
Save your money (even if it is on offer through Groupon) and go elsewhere.

Old fashioned, full of old people on coach trips. Food rubbish

Groupon deal hence cheap but even so.

Give the hotel a revamp and it would be beautiful.

They charge £1 for a towel for swimming and you are supposed to have your own padlock to hand for the changing room locker!

The drive up to the hotel as the vision of the magnificent building comes in to view, walking into the fantastic reception hall was so overwelming, what a stay we were in for.....

but thats as far as it went....

the receptionist told us that our room was on the first floor, so after dragging our bags up the stairs that smelt like vomit and looking all over for room 128 another resident told us that it was on the ground floor, so off we went in search of our room again....

then down a dirty musty corridor we arrived at our room, just a mear 25 mins after checking in, then, the horror inflicted upon us was comparable only to a fatal car crash.

The smell as we opened the door was pure mould, damp and very musty, so we asked for another room only to be told that there are six coach parties and a wedding booked in so that was the only room available, with this we tried for another hotel in the area but there was none available for when we needed and so enjured the affliction of the room.

When we returned to the room it became even worse all the furniture was damaged and not a single draw was usable the tv remote was broken and would not operate the tv even with new batteries that we supplied. lights not working, pictures damaged cobwebs every were bathroom filthy with tiles missing in the shower cubicle, curtain rail falling off the wall filty net curtain the bed base was broken in the centre and when you lay on it you rolled to the centre, an addional quilt over the matteress to prevent harm from the springs pushing through, fleas in the room.

Then came the food....

tastless and over cooked or raw, that was the option available to us carrot and corriander soup that was described by a chef as dirty dishwasher water and it looked it to, overcooked beef, with raw yorkshire pudding and veg that i could have eaten (eaten in the loosest term more like drank) with a straw, or over cooked chicken wirth raw pastry and the same veg, followed by stale cake or still frozen gataux.

The bar was dirty and the staff rude, to the point of even telling me that my wife was telling lies and that she had asked for two ciders, when i had ordered two largers.... On two occassions I had to return my drink as it had shards of broken glass in it. and every glass was dirty.

then every morning we were awoken to coaches parking outside our window from 9am to 10am and then returning later to repeat the same from 3pm to 6pm...

when I went for a shower a floor tile cracked under foot (bare at time) cutting me badly enough for it to bleed for an hour.

take it from experience stay well clear of this place.....

Room Tip: Rooms in the bates motel (Psyco) are safer, quieter, and cleaner

Went for a conference at the hotel, on arrival for greeted by drunk guests who still had wine glasses at the gate. Reception did not seem bothered. The rooms were disgusting, one bar of soap in a twin share, breakfast seemed to run out wAsnt topped up. The customer service is the worst I have ever experienced, smoking by the entrance next to a bin that was full and spilling.
Never again, don't know how they are allowed to operate
