I've spent 22 years in the armed forces (including Iraq) and have stayed in better barrack accomodation than this. Positives - warm dry room and quiet. Negatives - arrived in room to find used fake eyelashes on the tv. Receptionist disinterested and despite telling me there's no internet access in the rooms I saw a modem in the corridor and it did have wifi access in the room. Matress VERY uncomfortable with springs protruding. 1930hrs I requested iron and ironing board to be told no I can't because housekeeping have gone home not back in until 0700hrs following day. She said they would be left outside my room the following morning at 0700hrs, guess what? They weren't there. Just glad it was company paying and not me. Also be reporting to hotel bookers to take this off our hotel list!!!!

We paid £39 for a family room with bed and breakfast so we weren't expecting the Ritz which was just as well! I was tickled by the Bali Brown bathroom suite (we had that colour in the 80's) complete with its white toilet seat. The decor of the room was what you might call faded elegance! The free WiFi we were promised was only available in the communal areas which was a bit of a shame. The Reception staff were very welcoming which was nice. The restaurant was a bit of a shambles; there are no prices on display for the buffet style evening meal (£12 a head) which is sort of "eat as much as you like" with the exception of the meat where you have to wait for somebody to find the "carver" who disappears frequently. Other guests were complaining bitterly about the food but, although it didn't look terribly appetising, was hot and tasty. The puddings were pretty awful but we asked for ice-cream which they happily served. Breakfast was ok but it would have been nice to have had fresh fruit rather than tinned and I had a bit of a flashback of boarding school with its cold, soggy toast. The staff were obviously trying to save on work by cramming everybody down one end of the room but probably expended more energy chasing the guests (literally) loudly away from the tables they didn't want them to sit at. We were sat at a table with marmalade all over the cloth and when I pointed out that my husband was likely to get it all over his new jumper, the restaurant manager kindly put a napkin over it for us! However, as I said in the title, you get what you pay for so we weren't disappointed as it was still very good value for money.

from the picture, it looks lovely. look closer at the pictures to see signs of age. cars from the 80s.
i don't think this place has had a refurb since the 80s.
old tvs and bad signal. it was very understaffed when we went and they are overworked and most likely underpaid so i was not angry they weren't smiling, i felt bad for them having to work in such a crap place!
we booked via a emailed offer i received and it was an overnight stay, 3 course dinner and breakfast for two for £60 and we paid £10 extra for a jacuzzi bath. this was a waste of £10
can't believe they have the cheek to ask you to pay more for a bath that has some rubbish jets in.
cracked tiles in bathroom, dirty grouting. creaky floorboards.
we stayed one snowy january night and we had to have the window wide open because the radiator wouldn't go down.
the food was the worst i've ever attempted to eat.
the shepards pie looked nice but put in my mouth, had to spit it out!!!!!
it was like salt and salt and potato.
all the food was crap and i had to ask for complimentary lemonade to drink the complimentary wine because it was like acid.
breakfast was awful and extremely overpriced if you were to pay for it.
never again!

We stay at this hotel every feb for a major dog show weekend.
We have stayed over the last 4 years and the hotel has not changed a bit just getting more and more shabby. The food isn't great at all but edible. Don't ask for anything hot during the day as the answer is only carvery available. The room we where in 345 has a 70s b&b feel going on complete with dirty net curtains ripped wallpaper and the piece de resistance salmon pink bathroom suite complimented with brown tiling with blue flowers.
The staff are quite rude and uninterested.
Now i know it is well known for being dog friendly but we do pay a quite expensive price to stay for this weekend.
The ice machine at the bar broke. The lift broke (never been here and it work all weekend) and the vending machine for cold drinks dispensed out of date coke bb sept 2012. We go for the show and the friends not for the hotel. Its dim abd grimm.

We stayed here for two nights on a two night break. We asked for a room upgrade and paid £10 per night extra. The room was appalling and smelled bad so we got another room but when we asked for their best room, we were told that was it.

The dining room was freezing at breakfast time and the food was horrible. Our champagne and chocolates didn't arrive until the second day - after we kept asking for them - and the champagne tasted like paraffin so we left it.

Staff were overworked and obviously fed up. When we asked why we couldn't have a room like the one in the promotional photo near the reception desk, we were told that it didn't exist!!

It was a 'cheap' break and certainly was!!! We will never stay here again.

Re. other comments about the decor of the hotel, there's an army of decorators going through the hotel, our room was newly done and very nice. The public areas are the classic country house surroundings. Food was very good and plentiful, the dining room is the best I've used in a hotel of this type.
Staff were very helpful and courteous.
Hotel is minutes drive from NEC/Birmingham/Coventry.
Value is very good, we had two nights DB&B for £27pppn, including a bottle of wine on the first night.
We didn't use the optional health club, as £4 for a swim was too much for such a little pool.

Stayed in early February 2013 for 4 nights on business as close to Birmingham around 35 mins drive. Positives......warm room and comfortable in general as it was cold outside minus 2c.
Negatives No phone in room socket was broken and phone unplugged asked for it to be fixed they said in the morning it would be done. It was NOT done on my fourth night. So no room service or alarm call for the whole stay. Bath water came out green. Furniture tired and dated. Asked for a blanket 2 times and it never came. Asked again the following day and made a fuss and it came.
Breakfast was buffet style coffee in flask and nasty. It should be at least fresh!
Bacon so salty my tongue has shrunk! Fresh fruit fine and staff friendly. High ceilings in restaurant so very cold and poor lighting very dim.......
Evening meal shocking school dinners on a bad day......mushy veg poor meats and frozen fish DO NOT EAT HERE. £12 not worth it.Ate out the next 3 evenings which was not ideal as I was tired and did not really want to venture out.
Pool and sauna are fine. All areas dim needs new bulbs all over as not replaced. Lots of workmen with shaven heads and tatoos in every night who were intimidating . Stayed in the pool! Lots of trades workmen staying here over 4 nights as cheap cost mid week.
It its day this would have been fantastic needs upgrading and to be cared for/loved. Front line staff friendly in an impossible role of complaints. Management need the sack or training.
Building has character why in the name of God can the Brittania group let it go to the dogs perhaps profit over quality/service. NOT suitable for a couples getaway/romantic break unless you have lost all of your 5 senses.
I would not stay again sadly. They need to sort out the food as a number one priority.

Room Tip: As far away from reception/bar area as noise levels high
