“Poor quality and satisfaction is an understatement !!”
Reviewed February 17, 2013

My husband has been staying there on business and i have been for the weekend. The rooms are shabby and dirty and the walls are so thin you can hear everything. When you go for breakfast you are given a table and then left to your own devices trying to find where everything is. The mushrooms are tinned and the bacon and eggs are overcooked. The sausage i did'nt even try.
For your evening meal you can go in the restaurant or have a bar meal. If its busy then the restaurant cant keep up as it is a buffet and if you order at the bar then you have to wait until they have catered for the restaurant. Overall it is a total shambles.
To end my review the worst part is that my husband has now gone to pay his bill and they say his rates have increased and want more money from him. Is this the dealings of areutable firm. NO!!!!!

Room Tip: Don't bother

I stayed at the Royal Court from the 13.2.13 for two nights as a valentines break away with my Boyfriend. Was really worried after reading all the bad reviews but have to say overall what a lovely hotel it is. The reception area was really clean, and the receptionist was helpful and apologized for keeping us waiting as she helped another couple, even though we weren't waiting for more than a couple of minutes. After going to our room (272) we were delighted with how clean it was. The decor on the stairways is a little dated, and the carpet is a little worn, but they are doing some refurbishment so hopefully they'll change that soon. The room it self was lovely, bathroom clean and a lovely Jacuzzi bath. The only slight complaint about the room was the windows, they did let in a draft. But the curtains where very thick and the radiator did keep the room nice and warm. We had both evening meals and breakfasts included in our deal and the food was lovely. It is a help your self buffet which some have criticized but I found that the food was really hot and as a fussy eater, I liked being able to pick what I wanted with my food. The starter was soup or salad. The salad was fresh and there was lots to chose from. The main meal was delicious both nights we were there, couldn't fault it at all. We had ham & leek pie and BBQ chicken on our first night and sweet & sour pork with rice and chicken in mushroom & white wine sauce on our second. Both nights it was lovely. Breakfast was again a self service, but was very hot and no complaints. The tea and coffee would have been nicer if they were served fresh. Drinks in the bar were a little expensive but we expected this as they usually are in hotels. For a pint of strong bow and a Malibu and coke it was £6.90 (to give you an idea of prices).
We spent one of our days in the Spa, which was lovely. There is a sauna, steam room, pool and Jacuzzi. Everywhere was spotless and the staff couldn't be more helpful.
The hotel is situated about 3 miles away from Coventry City Center, and after asking for directions from the helpful staff on reception we had a lovely day out exploring Coventry.
Although some areas of the hotel are having much needed refurbishment our stay wasn't interrupted by this.

I would 100% return to this hotel.

well where do i start? i booked this hotel for our first ever valentines trip away with my husband. i had read all the mixed reviews on the place and thought that i would go with an open mind. we checked in the receptionist needs a clean uniform and a smile, the only thing she told us was 2nd left and get the lift to the 1st floor for our room so off we went we used the stairs and some of these were threadbare carpets, i had booked an executive double with whirlpool bath on a valentine special that included champagne and chocolates as well as dinner and breakfast. we entered the room it was very cold and dated. The bathroom had a piece of tape over the carpet edge the sink had a crack in it as did the bath panel. the furniture was all dated and stained (seen better in charity shops). the bed was a divan the base looked new but was not assembled properly and the matress was very thin and very very uncomfortable. the walls were also thin i could hear the people either side and the view we had was of the laudry outsidein cages.

The champagne and chocolates were not in the room when we arrived we got them later after speaking to the lady in the dining hall (which you have to book for but nobody had told us that). the food was poor quality i work in a hospital and that food is better. there were no green vegatables as i opted for the fish and chips i would have expected to see at least some peas but no. we ate it but were contemplating the chip chip we had seen further down the road on our arrival. The breakfast was totally inedible. bacon bits tinned mushrooms sausages hard.

that is just half the story.

All in all i would never go again or use this hotel chain

Room Tip: dont book one thats my advice

The hotel is well sited on the Tamworth rd about 10 mins(by car) from the center of Coventry.Arrived about 4pm and the lady on reception was freindly and helpfull. The room however was quite dated ,the carpet was too small for the room ,either that or it had argued with the walls.Furniture was dated but functional and beds were comfortable however one had a sheet that was about six inches to short.I do have to say that some refurbishment was going on to the rooms close by and i would definitely revisit this hotel

On arrival we were kept waiting for 20 minutes as there were not enough staff to cope with the guests arriving. Our 'superior' room turned out to be anything but. It was situated on the top floor at the end of a dreary and dated corridor by the linen and cleaning cupboards, en route to which we passed room signs with broken letters and water damaged ceiling panels on the staircase. The large room again was very dated and drab and had peeling wall paper in several places. There was an armchair in the corner with numerous holes in the upholstery which had obviously been like that for some time.

The bathroom was very poor. It smelt of stale urine and needed a good mop, there was a nasty dark stain by the toilet. The floor moulding was peeling away from the walls. The bath seal had black mold spots. We could not get the shower to work properly as the taps were difficult to control and the shower head kept collapsing against the wall spraying water everywhere.

We had paid for a meal with the room, but sadly even the food had nothing to recommend it. It was comparable to school dinners, and I may be doing school dinners a disservice. All served in a help yourself manner, with overcooked vegetables, tasteless gravy and dried up meat. The puddings were cheap frozen gâteaux type with unidentifiable fruit.

If you think you can't go wrong with breakfast - think again, they did. Tea out of a flask - shame on you! Scrambled eggs that have dried out and toast that is soggy enough to ring out.

It is so sad that a hotel that was once proud to open its doors, is so neglected and badly managed. A complete thumbs down to Britannia Hotels, I would certainly never trust in their name again and wish I had looked at trip advisor before I booked.

We had read terrible reports of this hotel but as ir was very reasionably priced and we only neede a one night stay we risked it.
The Hotel is beautifully situated, although could be difficult to find without a Sat-Nav.
The receptionist was extremely helpful and we were soon in our room which was spotless. The bathroom had a jacuuzzi and I was soon enjoying a hot relaxing bath.
The bar area was quite full but not in the least rowdy and people appeared to be enjoying the experience.
Two coachloads of mature travellers were staying the night and they were very forthcoming in their praise for the hotel and staff.
The breakfast was the usual buffet affair but ha d delicousies such as "black pudding" the staff were very helpfull and contributed to our enjoyment.
I am at a loss to see how people could not be impressed by this hotel, especially considering the price. I would certainly stay there again when next in the area and would recommend it unconditionally to friends and family.
