“Excellent staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2012

We stayed as a group of 4 adults and 2 under 5's for 3 nights over the jubilee weekend occupying 1 double and 1 family room both of which were very clean, modern and comfortable. We opted for breakfast each morning which we found to be of a good standard.
As previously stated by other reviews the entrance is not well signed and we found the attached Harvester to be a bit 'rough around the edges' but what stood out for us was the PI staff all of whom were pleasant, friendly and extremely helpful and patient (remember the 2 under 5's)

We stayed as part of a group attending a wedding close by. The hotel itself met our needs well - the room was very clean as was the hotel restaurant. Really good value for a two night stay. Particular recommendations go to the staff who were extremely friendly - nice to see these days! Couple of downsides - the hotel is a bit tricky to find from the main road (Look for the petrol station / M&S as it's opposite there) and, as it's next to a Harvester pub, it did get a bit noisy in the early hours - but all in all, if all you need is a quick stopover then this does the trick

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing away from the pub

Staff excellent, as in all PIs we've stayed at.
The signposting is truly awful, not aided by poor lighting of the entrance drive. You drive up the road where they have their great big signs - where else would the entrance be? - and find yourself on a narrow road leading to Scotland with no turn-offs till Glasgow. The actual entrance appears at night to be where the delivery trucks would go in - dark and unsigned. So, turn off the main road and DON'T take the first right - take the turn after driving past the car park.
These are budget hotels so we don't expect much, but no heating in the bathroom was a bit of a brrrrr experience. Leave the bathroom door open overnight. Everything else fine.
We stayed in one of the Disabled rooms. They need to think about these: The bed was the PI standard - comfy but low. The doors into the disabled rooms group and into the actual room both have strong springs, which need an able-bodied person to hold them open for you. The toilet support mechanism was designed by the same team who designed the Centurion tank; other models are available as they say. The toilet itself is standard height, which was fine for us; others may find it, like the bed, too low to be easy to use though a small person will find it great.
I didn't use their phone booking/enquiry system but can't understand why they use a premium rate number - it makes you think they might at heart be as spellbindingly awful as Ryanair.
To end as I began; we had a few gripes but the smile, chit chat, assistance and service at breakfast dispelled them all.

Finding this in the dark was not easy because the post code in the sat nav does not take you to the entrance which I could not find in the dark. I am surprised no-one else mentions this. It could do with an an Entrance sign on the drive. Look for the Harvester Pub and drive in there. My room was unheated despite being booked and it turned out the heater did not work. The staff were very helpful and got me a standing heater which worked fine. They also put it on for me on my arrival on the second night. Bed was very comfortable and I slept well. Compared to other Premier Inns it was only average tho' I thought- the Shower smelt when I went in the first time; the remote control on the TV stuck a bit; the heat did not work and I could not really regulate the temp. of the standing heater. But the staff were helpful and did their best to sort the heating, bringing me an extra duvet in case. I had a reasonable rate booking early and it is convenient for the University.

Had a weekend away staying two nights in order to go to the NEC in Birmingham which was a short stay away. Room clean and breakfast was excellent, placing your orders which is much better than buffet option.
What made the difference on this stay compared to other hotels were the excellent staff, very friendly and helpful. Full marks from me and I will be back.
