Went to the Belgrade Theatre for the first time last night. Lovely looking theatre, very modern, contemporary and staff (front desk) very friendly and polite.
Went to see La Boheme' (modern twist). Was disappointed that we missed Act II which they chose to perform in the foyer. The announcement made to leave the theatre when Act I ended was heard but quite a few of the audience did as we did and ignored it. Normally, you can sit in the theatre during a break as opposed to having to go to the bar/foyer etc. Halfway through the break, a Usher came and told us that the Act II was being played out in Foyer. The Company wanted to surprise audience. We were not impressed, as were other people we observed when they were told too. Equally, the foyer is small and some people said they were not able to see much anyway.
I think the audience should have been told of this. Very disappointed. Will have to see play again to get the fullness of the story. Overall, we loved the theatre and the play was 'alright'.
