Description: At the Blue Bistro restaurant we offer a fabulous menu featuring modern British cuisine with a Mediterranean twist, based upon great, preferably local, seasonal ingredients, ethically sourced and cooked with passion. Despite the quality of our food, it is still possible to lunch at Blue for a fiver. Awards include the Warwickshire & Worcestershire Life Food & Drink Newcomer of the Year 2012 and an OpenTable Diners Award as one of the top ten most romantic restaurants in the UK and Ireland. The dining area at Blue covers two floors of a beautiful medieval building dating back to 1450, the exposed beams of which are complemented by striking wooden furniture to create an elegant ambiance and a unique dining experience. The building was formerly a pub called the Green Dragon - reputedly the model for the inn featured in George Eliot's Middlemarch. The restaurant is situated on the historic Spon Street, in Coventry City Centre, an easy walk from the Belgrade Theatre, the Skydome and its Odeon cinema, Ikea and, of course, Coventry Cathedral. We have good disabled facilities, but if you have mobility issues please let us know to ensure that your table is not upstairs!Unlike many restaurants, we are happy to welcome children.

“Excellent food, wonderful setting”
Reviewed September 1, 2012

Went here using a voucher through Travel Zoo; booked for our 10th Wedding Anniversary.

Upon arrival the staff were great, sat us at a cosy table but were very quick to move us when my very tall husband couldn't get his lanky legs all the way under the table. Atmosphere was nice, the building has lots of character and has been decorated well. We went here hoping to have a lovely romantic meal and we couldn't have asked for more really.

Found the staff to be very personable and pleasant, gave us time for choices and in between courses, didn't feel rushed at all. The food was outstanding, cooked to perfection, presented well and the quality was higher than we expected.

Some people have said that the menu was a little limited but we didn't find that at all, even though my husband is a particularly fussy eater. It does say on the website to advise in advance of any food intolerances or preferences and they can prepare for your visit. Also heard the staff talking to another couple advising that the chef could put something together if the menu wasn't totally to their taste.

They even gave us a small gift on leaving as a token of congratulations on our wedding anniversary. Will definitely be returning for another visit, highly recommended! :)

“OK if you like very small portions!!”
Reviewed August 31, 2012

Went here on a Friday night, had purchased a voucher to use £35 for meal and free glass of bubbly. Menu arrived but noticed that the size of the steak had been reduced to 6oz, when queried was told it was whatever was available on the day! They then said they would make sure it was an 8oz as shown on our voucher. The Manager came downstairs and spoke to me about the voucher and all I could smell on her was stale cigarettes also on the waitress. Then had to ask for our bubbly twice as it was not offered to us when we went in. Starters came and crikey never seen such small portions, salted cod was more like a shaving of parmesan cheese. Main meals arrived (which were OK) but again quite small. Overall, place is very nice inside for certainly not good value for money (maybe that's why they have to use the services of a company that does vouchers at a reduced cost???)

“Good but overpriced”
Reviewed August 28, 2012 via mobile

We had a good meal, but the meal was very expensive. We would have expected outstanding food for the price, but we didn't feel the quality of the food matched the price.

“Good value”
Reviewed August 24, 2012

We went for early evening Bluebird menu which was very good value, the a la carte looked a bit expensive . However we did feel that the main courses were a bit ordinary, not very imaginative. We had attentive ,friendly service.
