6 months since last visit to Allys. Décor and entrance stairs still plain and shabby, and the main restaurant is still rather plain and the staff entrance to the kitchen needs decoration and hiding!
Service has notably improved and alcohol bottles are opened very quickly on arrival (it does not serve alcohol, just soft drinks and water), orders are taken promptly and courses cleared away promptly. They do seem to have more staff than previously.
Food has always been very reliable here, although it is mainly the balti/curry house staples. The menu has changed little over the years. The prices for mains are between £8 and £11 which is cheap/average for Earlsdon. Food was again good without being outstanding. Nan's are sliced (unusual for a balti) but generally are just big enough but the special nan was very good. Desserts a bit tired off a generic menu. Typical Ally's really; if you want a reliable, fairly cheap curry in Earlsdon and are willing to take your own beer/wine and are not too worried about atmosphere or décor then it is fine. If you want lager, hubbub, atmosphere, decoration then go to the Royal Bengal.
