Firstly we were met more as if we were attending a conference! The lady although friendly dealt with us from behind a desk and computer whilst she fiddled with her stapler! The door keys were explained and we were shown to our first floor room. Our first concern once left in the room was that we had a fire escape door leading out of our room onto a flat roof at the rear of the property. We then realised after checking further, observing several escape lights on the ceiling and upon reading the fire escape notice on the bedroom door that it was a main escape route for any guest in the building! On the outside of our bedroom door was a 'break glass' facility that released a catch for anyone to enter our room to get to the escape door. One could imagine the alarm going off (falsly or not) in the middle of the night and loads of people would suddenly come stomping through our room! We understood this to be a new hotel from researching the internet before booking. It certainly did not appear this way at all. The ensuite was very old, plumbing very noisy and shower ancient! The bed was a zip link variety with a very lumpy uncomfortable mattress. There was no hairdryer and no sanitary bin (essential really). At breakfast we waited ages for anyone to appear, there seemed to be no means of summoning anyone. When the lady came out to bring the only other two guests their breakfast, we requested more milk for our drinks as it had run out on our cereal. She went away and came back with our breakfasts twenty minutes later but still no milk. After paying extra for a cooked breakfast it was sadly not worth the wait. Burnt bacon, grisly sausage, no choice of toast...white or white! Only one positive was the place was generally clean but lots of improvement needed. Overall a poor experience.

Room Tip: Seemed to be a facility (outside our room) with a microwave for people to heat up food in the evenin...

I stayed one night here last week and found it an extremely welcoming, clean and friendly place. The new bathroom fittings were a welcome change to some places. The staff (thank you, Jane) were all helpful and seemed very happy themselves. I slept like a log despite the road being fairly busy. I would definitely recommend this hotel and the price for a single room was extremely good value. The facilities for the 20 people who attended the training day, the following day, were also clean and nice. Overall, excellent value.

A warm and friendly welcome. Accommodating and helpful staff. Fresh clean rooms with the added touch of large bath sheets and toiletries included. A yummy full English breakfast was worth the extra £5.00. Brilliant service and an overall 99% rating.
The only downfall...........There was no hair dryer!

Found this little gem of a hotel when the family needed accommodation for a night out in Birmingham.

The welcome was warm and friendly. We were shown to our room (which is a nice touch, as many don't bother with that these days).

We were given the lay of the land (local amenities) and told about breakfast.

The rooms were clean and comfortable with towels and toiletries provided (good quality ones too).

A full English breakfast is an extra fiver, but its worth it. Continental breakfast is included.

The staff are very friendly, and when we are next in need of a place to stay in Birmingham we will be returning to the Madeira!
