Marginally better than some other chains and always a good selection if wines. Food though is lagging behind in its variety and quality compared with some others in the same price range. Our chicken tagine tasted more like a stir fry, but it was warming on a cold night and the service was good.

On my visit the restaurant was very busy, service was very good. The toilets were scruffy but ok, food was as normal, cocktails were nice and good value for money

The staff are just amazing, this is, without a doubt the best Cafe Rouge we've been too. We stayed in Birmingham over Christmas and walked here everyday for coffee and breakfast, it was the perfect start to our day. On Christmas Day we walked past and noticed it was open for private bookings only, the waiter recognised us and asked us if we wanted coffee, they found us a table and after coffee we were then told we could eat here, they gave us the full daily menu to choose from and even put crackers on our table. We had a delicious meal washed down with a bottle of red. Thank you all at Cafe Rouge for making our Christmas extra special.

This was not our first visit, but we booked for a pre concert meal on New Years Eve. The website told us there were no bookings available but we rang and got a table for 2. We were very well received and shown to a pleasant table in the middle of the restaurant. 90% of places were taken. Service was attentive from the start and we counted about 8 servers working well together. This chain used to specialise in French waiting staff – no longer!!
They offered us the special New Years Eve menu at £29.99 for 3 courses with 6 starters, 6 mains and 6 desserts but we went a la carte.
My wife started with garlic batons, I had an excellent blue cheese and walnut salad. My wife had a very good sirloin steak and frites. My Breton chicken and leeks, courgettes and mash was very hot, but the chicken was very very bland even after heavy seasoning. We shared a coupe rouge.
We were in and out in 1 hour 40 minutes. One oddity – at 9 o’ clock they were having ‘belly dancing’ – in a French themed restaurant?????
Our scores (Out of 10) Food - 9, Ambience - 9, Service - 9, Value for Money - 8.

Ravenous and needed blood sugar so we stopped in. I normally avoid chain restaurants, quality of the food and service is sometimes questionable, but in this case - they've got it right. Quick and efficient service and the food was very good.
