This cinema isn't big but it's one of those where you can book a sofa for two, perfect for a date idea, if you want to have that little extra space to put your arms around ;)

This cinema is a proper old picture house, lovingly restored. The two screens have normal seating and sofa seating. Pay extra for a sofa, it's worth it. Real film fans go here. You won't find the popcorn crowd here. The current photo is wrong. This cinema is tucked away behind New Street station. Book early to guarantee a seat, especially the sofas. They are very popular.

I love the Electric Cinema because its the oldest cinema in Britain and shows great alternative films, such as the subtitled French film Untouchables, which was excellent and wouldn't make it onto a multiplex cinema. It is charming and original, that means a bit of wear and tear but so what. When you arrive you pay for your ticket through a little Box Office window and then you can buy soft and alcoholic drinks and little bowls of snacks to take through. You can book comfy sofa style chairs at the back, a bit like a lounge, or sit in the stalls (which I think are slightly better for viewing). You have travelled back in time being in this cinema and its ambience adds to your evening.

We felt really special at the Electric Cinema, it was as if you had your own cinema at home. We saw a French film called the 'Untouchables' and I booked a sofa for my wife and myself. Large comfortable seats supplement the 'standard' seating but it is well worth the extra cost. Provided with a menu, you can text a food and drink order from your seat and a polite usher arrives with your choice while you enjoy the film. Pure luxury in this intimate little cinema.

Excellent staff, service and surroundings all for a great price. Free parking available too! It's like going back in time whilst watching a modern movie, they also show some art noir type films as well as a selection from foreign directors - all in all this place is brilliant and I hope it's there for a long time to come!
