The electric merges with its surroundings so well that if you are not looking for it, you might walk by it.

Inside it's like a whole different world. A sort of old world charm. Old style movie stubs. Drinks served in glasses. People whom you could have an actual intellectual conversation on film makes this a great cinema.

It's also the oldest working cinema in UK. The two screens are great and there is a certain cozy feeling throughout the cinema.

Different from the run-of-the-mill cinema chains, The Electric is an experience like no other.

A friend who lives a little distance away and I were making plans to meet up and watch "The Artist" and have a day of general catching up and we ended up choosing The Electric as the cinema - given its age and history, perhaps an appropriate venue.

The experience was pretty positive on the whole. The tiny lobby containing the box office and concessions window was full of people because when we got there, there was only one person on duty who was having to go between windows to sell tickets and drinks/food. That eased somewhat once somebody else came on the scene.

We'd pre-booked a sofa seat for the showing which meant we were given a menu with our splendidly old-fashioned "Admit One" tickets. The menu was the choice of food and drinks which could've been ordered by SMS during the show for delivery to your sofa. We didn't try it out. I suppose the whole silent movie being fully visual made it less desirable to be taking your eyes off the screen; with a normal movie you can follow the dialogue without necessarily needing the visuals.

Snacks were decent value and didn't include popcorn or fountain drink. We had tortilla chips, olives and chorizo, beers and some absinthe served with a proper absinthe fountain. Not bad for an early afternoon matinee!

I tried the normal seats before we left and they were unremarkable but the experience of the sofas, even for the extra cost (£12 or thereabouts) was well worth it and I for one would be very happy to visit here again.

This wonderful cinema offers a unique experience to its customers. It provides a small personalised space to watch film in in marked contrast to the bare, blaring spaces offered in multi screened cinemas elsewhere in the City. Its seating is comfortable and if you choose a sofa there is built in servicing if you are thirsty or peckish a tray is brought to you with your texted order on it. This is a place which feels cherished and cherishes its customers.

Reminds me of the original Electric Cinema in Notting Hill, but a lot more comfortable. And you have a drink while watching the film, unlike the Electric where you had to pop across the road to pub.
