“A perfect hotel for the perfect wedding .Saturday 12th January .2013”
Reviewed January 14, 2013

On behalf of me and my new wife (Mrs H) we would like to say how very blessed we were for having our special day at The Old Rose and Crown , Lickey .
From the initial meeting all those months ago with the lovely and absolutely fantastic Marie (wedding coordinator ) right up to those nervous minutes before hand on the big day and partying into the night ,no request no matter how big or small was too much .
Being a smaller hotel , you effectively have it to yourself and your guests (unless of course there was already pre booked accommodation for other people stopping ) which was great as we had some friends and relatives stop over plus a complimentary suite for my wife and I (spacious .fab decor and comfy bed )
Food for the sit down meal was amazing , very quick to come out and to be cleared with attentive staff always in sight but at the same time you never felt rushed and this is always a plus especially if your not prone to making public speeches (Grooms speech )
Very quick turn around of the main room for the night time and it was a great pleasure to see staff working hard to do this with a smile and great attitude with which was lovely .
Night time was great with the recommended disco for the hotel and thanks to the dj who played along with us while we did our suprise dance .
If your have your wedding in the main room , the hotel does have a smaller room which was used in the daytime for when guests started arriving and for when they turn the big room around ,( I will say here that we had a few kids with the group and while the staff was turning round the big room for the night time ,the kids were allowed quite openly to stay in the big room while the staff worked round them and was very courteous to all the kids too .)
The buffet was amazing . Nice and beautifully presented with staff on hand to clear and tidy . Cheese and Branston , beef and onion , turkey and cranberry sauce all on these cottage type rolls(think that's right ) with crisps , snacks and other goodies interlaced around them .
Compliments were in the majority when we went around to familes and friends after . Really really nice food all day .
A fantastic suite to finish our day off in and a lovely cooked breakfast in the morning , it really really made our first day as husband and wife .
I will sum up now but I will say just that although the wedding and everything that goes with was the reason why we were at the hotel , it was the little things that also make you realise why this hotel and the people that run and work there get highly rated . A few things like we had brought some champagne from home and we asked for an ice bucket . Within a few minutes . Bucket was delivered upstairs with our champagne placed in it with two glasses even though we had brought it from home . Or that my niece couldn't have the beef which was served so requested a piece of chicken for her and that was it no questions asked .
It is a lovely hotel .
Andrew , you have a fantastic team and an amazing hotel . Marie is an absolute delight to organise with a credit to you and the hotel .
Thank you for a perfect day
Neal and Alison Hadley

Well I must say that for my first visit here I was very disappointed. We had chosen here for our annual family get together and within our group there was 13 people. The service was slow for drinks and when they came the orders were wrong. Our pre ordered menu was placed two weeks prior to our visit and members of our family had requested Vegetable soup however we were served Tomato, when we requested to change this for one of our members the chef could only offer Tomato as that apparently was soup of the day. This member of family then had to have pate as a different choice. The portions for the starters were diappointing and very small in fact the Pate was invisable. The service throughout the meal was slow and the waitresses lent over the table to serve food to members of the family that could have been reached if they had walked around the table instead. My husbands nan was sat in the corner and did not have alot of space to move around as the area was very squashed. The table that we had was also wonky which did not help which caused the food to be unstable. The last point I would like to make was the christmas pudding with the custard was cold. The best thing about the meal was the Beef as there was plenty of this and it was carved in front of us. There was also a santa for the children which was a nice touch and my nephew was given a present which was a selection box. I think if I was to return back here then the service, food quantity/choice and the body language of the waitresses would have to change.

Stayed here on a business trip in Nov 2012. For the price, this hotel is excellent value and is a great place to stay. In the summer it must be even better with access to the local parkland.
OK, its not a four star hotel (no swimming pool, fitness center etc) but its a brilliant budget choice. Rooms are excellent, with big comfy double beds and a sofa. Mine had free wi-fi too. The staff were friendly and helpful and English breakfast huge.
My only gripe..they should get down to Costco and get some new big white fluffy towels - mine were a bit tired and detracted from an otherwise excellent stay.

Thank you for your positive review, I've passed your kind comments on to the staff concerned. We are also grateful you have brought the quality of the guest linen to our attention as well. We are aware that some of the towels weren't looking and feeling their best and had already ordered some new stock and are waiting for their delivery, hopefully should you return you will notice a difference.

We chose the restaurant in this hotel to celebrate our Mothers birthday, and what a wonderful time we had. As a party of thirteen we were given a very warm welcome and shown to our table in the very spacious and modern dining area. The menu choices had something for everybody and was very good value for money. Service was excellent, and having the carvery meat sliced and served personally at the table was an extra special touch. Staff were attentive to our needs and children were made to feel welcome, which is so important to us when we are out as a family group. All of our party were pleased with all aspects of the meal and are looking forward to a return visit in the very near future.

Our wedding day went wonderfully! The staff were extremely helpful and the accommodation was very pleasant. Excellent venue and beautiful grounds. Big thanks to the hotel's Wedding Planner, Marie, for organising it all so efficiently.
