Having stayed in many Etap hotels throughout the UK we didn't hesitate staying at this one. Price is the main reason we favour Etap's, they are incredibly cheap and as we spend very little time in the actual room then it has everything you need. They are compact and have obviously been designed to be basic but this hotel was clean, the staff friendly and has the bonus of having carparking which I think costs approx £3 per day but has limited spaces. You don't get any complimentary toiletries apart from a small block of soap, so make sure you take your own. Towels are provided, but they aren't big, luxury ones you can wrap yourself in. They are basic! I also take an extra pillow as in my experience all Etaps only give one pillow per person and at other locations they have been unable to provide additional ones. They also skimp on the amount of toilet roll you have, so take an extra one yourself. However, don't let the few faults above put you off. Etaps are basic but they are the cheapest chain hotel you will find and in my opinion they are fantastic value for money. The Birmingham one is in a great location for the Bull Ring shopping centre, Mailbox, O2 Academy and the Hippodrome Theatre and I would estimate a 10-15 min walk from New Street Station. It is especially good if you are visiting the gay village which is 3 minutes walk away. There are convenience stores very close by and plenty of places to eat, restaurants and takeaways. Despite it's location which is directly on a busy main road, it wasn't noisy at all, but our room was located at the back overlooking the carpark.

Being from India we had a good stay at Etap. The breakfast was worth paying.Receptionist Kasia was very friendly and helpful.Special regards to her. She was lively and our interaction with her made us feel at home..
We had good internet facility all through the day. Connectivity to the hotel was good with a Tesco and few Restaurants near by.

Advantages: cheap

Disadvantages: no wifi in rooms, swipe cards that rarely seem to open doors, the occasional drunk making noise.

Close to the centre of town (walkable distance). Clean, functional rooms (no decoration). Comfortable bed. Efficient service. Cheap and cheery. Soundproofing not good but was not a problem on the 2 nights I stayed at this hotel. Would be a problem with noisy neighbours. Haven't tried breakfast.
