“An intimate experience”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 15, 2014 via mobile

A small intimate theatre with limited seating and right next to the action. We saw a small play with a 2 or 3 person cast which we thoroughly enjoyed. You can have a drink and some food beforehand although I don't think they allow you to take your drinks in with you.

Thanks for the review, we're really proud of how intimate our space is and how close to the action you can get! I'm glad you enjoyed it, hope you come again soon. And yes, you can take drinks into the theatre for all our shows!

“a little gem”

Never been to the theatre at the Joint Stock House! But what a beautiful old building with so much character and history. Worth going there for a drink if you want a taste of English heritage.

Thanks for your review and I'm glad you enjoyed your visit. Sorry it was a little cold - the pub is currently undergoing essential maintenance and a complete refurb of our kitchen, which has meant a disruption to our heating this week. We've put extra heaters in the pub in the meantime but the cold weather this week hasn't helped. Hope we see you again soon, by which time we'll be better and warmer than ever!

“Urban Theatre in Birmingham”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

I saw an advert for this theatre in my local paper and we decided to give it a try. The subject matter of the show was interesting and the pub which stages the theatre seemed worth a visit too. We got into Temple Row around 5.30 via SnowHill train station and the area was buzzing. Lots of "suits" enjoying a drink after work. The pub itself was very easy to find and was full to the brim with drinkers and very busy with lots of food being served. We found the cost of drinks expensive but then it was full of suits! We didn't eat there but I have heard since they do a great line in pies. The theatre area, which is located up stairs is a very intimate venue and you get to see the design of the pub as you go up the stairs ( there is a lift too) The show was well worth the effort, funny, sad, and delivered by four young people who obviously love what they do. There was some "very soft" audience participation but as it was so gentle there was no need to be on edge about going to the loo! The ticket price was very reasonable for the quality of the show ( £18 for 2) We laughed a lot and there was one lad who's comic delivery was excellent and I am sure it will not be long before we see him on TV. There are lots of places to eat around the actual pub with various price ranges. The pub is located in a very interesting area with a cathedral opposite and the surrounding buildings are a mix of old/tradition and glass/metal modern . The pub also had a small but pretty outside area, with lots of flowers, creating an urban garden effect, excellent for smoking or not.

Thanks very much for your kind review - the show was Tell Me About Your Ex, our Autumn in-house production. You might be interested to hear that we have a sequel, Tell Me About Your Ex 2, coming this September. Hope to see you there!
