We wandered up to the 25th floor of the Indigo Hotel for a glass of bubbly and to see the sunset. The bar tables were separated from the dining tables, so we took a bar seat by the window and looked over the menu. We don't know whether or not there was table service. The menu on the table didn't have a list of the champagnes, so I go to the bar to get one and return to my husband. After we decide, we spot only one waitress who seems very busy with many tables, so my husband goes to the bar to order. So far, we have no problems with how our experience went. The problem starts when the waitress intercepts him from the bar and takes his order. After the order is taken, he rejoins me by our window seat. We wait for a few minutes, taking in the beautiful view, when my husband says he can see our drinks. The drinks sit on the bar for a while, and eventually I go up to retrieve them with permission of the bar staff. The waitress seems very busy and the place seems understaffed, but it would have been much quicker to let us order at the bar.
I bring the two glasses of champagne over and set them down. We immediately notice that one glass is fizzy and cold, and the other is a significantly warmer temperature and not fizzy at all. My husband returns to the bar with both glasses and explains the problem. The bartender takes the warm, flat one away and pours a fresh glass, and tops them both up, which is all we could have wanted.
The way the bartender handled the problem is perfect. However! It's one thing to try and send out an obviously sub par glass of champagne, it's another thing entirely to send it out with a visibly different one. At £10.50/125ml glass, this really should not have happened. If you've got to get rid of a flat, nearly empty bottle, at least mix it with the fresh stuff.
At £10.25 for a cosmopolitan, you're absolutely paying for the view and nothing else. I probably would come back to this place, despite everything, because it could very easily been "off day" and I think this place deserves a second chance and could be pretty amazing.
