Description: The Karczma is a traditional Polish restaurant, bar and grill located in the heart of Birmingham, just 5min walk from both the Bull Ring Shopping Centre and Moor Street Rail Station. Restaurant is decorated in the style of an old Polish country cottage seating 85 people across 2 rooms. The menu is designed to reflect a homely, hearty and rustic food that's quintessentially Polish, and prepared using only the very best quality ingredients. The menu contains numerous Polish classics including Pierogi (stuffed dumplings), Berszcz (Beetroot soup), Pickled Herring, Zurek (Pickled Rye Flour Soup) served from a hollowed out loaf of bread, as well as a whole host of grilled meats and fish. We wish you a pleasant stay and Enjoy !!!

Came to The Karczma for a team outing for work and looking for something a little different. Found out about the place from word of mouth recommendations and was convinced by the wonderful reviews is has across the internet (including TripAdvisor). While some of the group were apprehensive they were won over by the consistently delicious food, lovely staff and the amazing atmosphere!

While it might not look like much from the outside, you will not regret venturing inside! It is a wonderful little gem with brilliantly tasty food for a sensible price.

Definitely one to try!

Found this restaurant after it was recommended in the Waitrose magazine. Excellent value £9 lunch. Huge bowl of mushroom soup which was delicious and a meal in itself. Followed with generous portion of mushroom pierogi with choice of 3 sauces: spicy tomato, mushroom or bacon and onion. All delicious but couldn't finish it all as too full! Tntend to return one evening when we haven't eaten much since breakfast!

My daughter & I had the £9 set lunch menu of soup of the day (buckwheat) & mushroom pierogis. She chose the mushroom sauce & I had spicy tomato. So glad we took advice from other diners on here & hadn't eaten much during the morning prior to this! We were auditioning the place for a possible dinner booking in the future and we shall definitely eat there again. The host was friendly, the food was hot, came promptly and the quality was superb. Our meals were very filling and the warm rustic interior was a world away from the outside grime of a tatty part of town. There are a few steps down into the restaurant from outside, so be aware of this if you have difficulties with stairs. There is almost no choice for vegetarians as the authentic Polish cuisine is pretty much all meat based. My daughter used the toilet facilities and told me there was no paper nor hand drying facilities, so this needs to be addressed to get full marks from us. The meals and service certainly did not disappoint and we couldn't eat another thing for the rest of the day!

This was our second visit. 3 of us had lunch on a Saturday.

Overall, the experience was splendid and the waiter (who is married to the head chef) was charming and helpful.

Lunch was substantial, and though we shared a starter or mixed pirogi, we were too full for dessert. My main, enticingly named ‘chicken stomachs in a wine sauce’ proved (as expected) to be gizzards which were excellent, meaty and tender. The accompanying dumplings and beetroot worked well. Others had the pork chop with fired egg and fried sauerkraut, and the beef stew in a potato pancake (possibly the best dish of all). This was a meal of big flavours and bigger portions.

The entire experience was great and unhurried. A splendid antidote to Birmingham shopping!
Highly recommended.

Went here for dinner with my partner and his family for a birthday meal. The restaurant from the outside looks very run down, but as soon as you get inside you feel instantly at home. The atmosphere is very welcoming and the staff are lovely. The decor is very interesting and really makes the experience. The food itself is beautiful, really hearty food. Unless very hungry I would not recommend more than one course as we are big eaters and the portions beat us. The whole experience from beginning to end was wonderful, I will definitely be returning.
