“Terrible place”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2013

Well what can I say. We got there to cramped turnstiles that are closed in tight. The security we met on the door were horrid. The carpets are all sticky and horrible, we went close to the tote and this short guy said "we're closed" we said just looking and he muttered something to himself while switching on the machines. It took half an hour to get two drinks and two burgers. The track is high up so if you are disabled you would not get much of a view apart from watching it on a screen inside which defeats the fact of going. If you do go up the steps to view the race they are all different heights so you stumble when going up. (We only had coke before someone thinks we were drunk). £3 for a coke. £3.75 for a burger on its own. £2.50 for a program. No wonder there are hardly any people there. If they introduced a happy hour they would have to force the staff to smile. Do they realise we are in the other side of their faces. The only smiles we saw from staff was when they were joking among themselves. We stayed half an hour and left. The fixtures had been botched together where you could see damage had occurred and rather then doing the job it looked like they had gone out back and grabbed some scraps of wood to repair it.

The score board looked like it needs a replacement, old CRT screens that were not very clear. Floor sticky, old carpet. It is not a place for entertainment at all. I have seen cleaner transport cafes. Overall I would not return for any reason. They are either earning no money which at those prices I doubt. Or they are taking in all the profits and putting none back into the building. The automatic machines had no coin slots. You put a note in and I never saw any change. So if you put a tenner in that is what it looks like you spend.

If you are wanting a nice evening out then I would not recommend this place at all. Waste of money and waste of time. Comes to something when you wipe you feet to come out. Footwear was sticking to the floor.

Never again.

“Great fun”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2013

My first ever dog race and it was so much fun! Now the stadium is not in the best shape, the food doesn't look too good either, but it still worth a visit! I would suggest to bet (Ł2/bet) and not only watch the race, it simply makes the whole thing more exciting :) 11 races a night, each of them takes ~20 minutes with preparation, so you will spend about 3 hours there.
You are not allowed to take drinks in and there is no free cash machine in the stadium (and they don't take credit cards), so be prepared. There is plenty of free parking, if you go by car.

“Great night out for a group.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 9, 2013

We gathered 14 friends together for a Birthday celebration and none of us had been to the dog races before. We found it to be very entertaining and enjoyable.
The stadium is in pretty decent condition and thankfully well air conditioned as we went on a very hot evening.
All the staff seem genuinely friendly and helpful and nobody makes you feel silly for asking lots of newbie questions. A detailed programme is included for the 13 races which go off about every 20 minutes or so. You are not going to win tons of money unless you know the game and make big bets as the odds seldom go over single digits.
That being said,it is exciting watching the hounds run and obviously nice if you do win a few quid.
HINT. Go on the website and book well in advance and you can find some very good package deals. We got the six pack I believe, which included entry fee(£6),reserved inside seating,a drink(£3.60),a meal from the fast food outlet(£7.50)(which was quite good)a £2 bet and an entry to a drawing, all for £9.50 each with advanced booking.
A great time was had by all!!
Only negative..the hand dryers in the toilets are as effective as an asthmatic blowing on a wet sponge.

“Good fun and a cheap night out”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 3, 2013

If you book in advance you can get entry for GBP3 and there are plenty of dining deals. The stadium is reminiscent of an old lower league football stadium but the inside bar/food area is very smart and you can dine cheaply on fast food or in the restaurant. The view from the steps is good but you can get wet if it rains and it did. The only glitch on the whole evening was that the hare broke down and it took a long time to bring it back to life.
