Marriott Forest of Arden Hotel & Country Club

This is a typical Marriott hotel where ‘computer says no’.
The processes and systems really get in the way of a great customer experience.
Which is a real shame as staff bend over backwards to take care of you and make up for the irritations caused from ‘No’.

The food is very nice, though breakfast is a buffet affair with soggy rather than crispy bacon. There are two bars with outdoor areas but the cushions were being dry cleaned!!!!! The grounds are beautiful with deer wandering around the golf course, there is a spa with a pool (not very deep, sauna and steam room, and a very friendly lady to look after you. The bed was very comfortable with a cozy duvet, but the bedroom has no air conditioning and the windows open only an inch ‘health and safety’!!!!! I even offered to sign to say I would take on responsibility – but NO. They did provide a fan and a promise that air conditioning is on its way……

We had booked a conference room and were given a partitioned room with no windows – not great at the best of times, but in 30 degree heat!!!!! Very helpful staff found an alternative room, but it is the energy and effort it takes to keep having conversations to make things work. Wi-fi for example - £15 – in this day and age is it really profitable for them as a business, when it causes such irritation.

If you like walking, great, you have the grounds to enjoy and the bedrooms seem miles away from reception with lots of fire doors to navigate through, not so good with luggage – seems to be only one small lift.

If you are arriving by public transport, the hotel is £15 taxi from Birmingham International Train station, very helpful staff to organize taxi’s for you. If you are organizing an event there, Nicola is very helpful and proactive.

Room Tip: view over golf course -- with broken catch on window so you can open it!!!

Went for a golf weekend, and the room was quite nice I thought until I opened the bathroom door , and there was a really strong smell of urine, which was not nice, the whole bathroom was in quite poor state, the mastic seal around the bath was horrendous , but when I complained they said they would check this out, and guess what ten minutes later I was told that there was nothing wrong, I was in a party of eight people, and got them to smell for themselves and guess what , they all said it was a nasty smell of urine!
Well what did I do, I asked what happens now, a shoulder shrug was my answer, so I did nothing, there was no point, no air con, just a fan that had more dust , than the golf course I played on, can't fault the courses. The staff in the sports bar were except one young lad who had a serious chip on his shoulder, could not remember his name tag as he just threw the sandwiches we ordered down the Friday lunchtime on the table at us (19/07/13) , wish I had complained as he was very rude and surly, I only had to put up with this for one night. This weekend cost me five hundred for three people, with golf, and a evening meal spoilt by a sub standard room, and I male member of staff, poor, no not poor, unacceptable!!!!

Room Tip: No rooms have air con, in summer they are very hot, all you get is a noisy fan.

Used Hilton Honors points to stay at the Forest Arden. The hotel from a an external, perspective looks very attractive but needs to up the game re the internal fabric of the hotel and its customer service. Having stayed at a number of Marriott Hilton and Q hotels recently the lack of smiling staff was very evident apart from the staff in the Oaks bar. Breakfast was mediocre with the food warm rather than hot at best.

Will not be staying here again.

I stayed here overnight for a business conference.
The hotel is set amid a golf course and boasts spa and club facilities.
I must admit that I was most surprised to find that such a hotel lacks the basics of air conditioning in its bedrooms. Fortunately, I was able to open my windows in order to gain ventilation in this current hot weather.
The shower is fixed over the bath and must be designed for pygmies!
Room boasted 2 double beds and ample pillows. Beds were comfortable and I enjoyed a good nights sleep

Hotel and staff were fine, good food, accommodation and service. The golfing experience was horrendous for two rounds, but we enjoyed the third.
Sunday - 13 holes took over 4 hours. No marshals visible, lack of common sense and loooooong waits for every shot.
Monday- felt like a tour pro- five and a half hours- unfortunately didn't play like one
Tuesday - let through by one of the pros gone the second hole, no hold ups, had a great day.
Would have been a good idea to enforce a few bits of golfing etiquette!

Positive-Nice hotel, rooms good size. Excellent breakfast. Very nice evening meals. Spa very spacious and not busy.
Golf courses excellent. First 2 days the golf was extremely slow and we missed the last 5 holes to get back for supper. Very poor and no marshals around. Second day again slow taking well over 5 hours. Third day we finished the round in the same time as 10 holes had taken. Management should take note

decent hotel, friendly service, food good, and decent spa

sadly this was all wrecked by the complete failure of the golf course marshalls to enforce any kind of speed on the course

as a result one round took 5 and a half hours, the other round had to be abandoned after 13 holes in 4 hours

please sort this out, otherwise golfers should steer well well clear of this hotel
