“Very pleasant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

Went to the Bull for Thursday lunch. Ate on a voucher. Very welcoming and gave a good first impression - smart but not overly so. Good views over open countryside. Food was nicely cooked and very enjoyable - decent restaurant quality. House wine was excellent (always a good sign). Attentive service. Will return.

“Very Nice”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 20, 2013

We went to the Bull on a cold Tuesday night, it was very quiet, but that didn't really detract from the dining experience.

The staff were pleasant, friendly and helpful.

Our meals were lovely. I had the lamb shank which was delicious the sauce / jus that it came with was perfect. It was so nice I felt like getting some bread to mop up the left over bits. My partner had the chicken breast, which by the look of her plate at the end, was equally as delicious. She actually went and got us a spoon each so that we could both savour the jus/gravy/sauce with our dishes.

Desserts were perfectly fine.

We had a voucher for buy one get one free on the main courses (which looks to have ended now), and the whole meal with two pints of a really nice ale and a sparkling water came in at under £35.

We will definitely be going back. About the only downside is that the menu is quite small and some duplicates appear on it, probably to fill space.

All in all it's proper food done with some style and panache.

“Wow! What a gem!!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 9, 2013 via mobile

We came on a groupon deal, but are already planning our next visit!!!! The Spanish mussels were outstanding!!!! Fresh mussels with chorizo and coriander in an absolutely amazing sauce!! My husband had the chicken liver parfait which was extremely good also!!! Smooth and delicious! Mains we had the lamb shank....absolutely gorgeous with chorizo and peas on a pommels purée! And the haddock and chips...gorgeous massive piece of fish in a light batter with home cooked big proper chips and homemade tartare sauce!!! The service was second to none, we felt extremely looked after, the blonde pretty girl always had a smile on her face and nothing was too much trouble.

“one man show”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 1, 2013 via mobile

This was our second visit to the Bull having previously been in summer 2013. This time the pub was advertised as having new management although looked exactly similar. We were greeted and seated by a very pleasant young man, and as it turns out the only person aside the chef who appeared to be working. Ambience wise it was a nice touch to have a florist supply fresh flowers for the tables. We were on a groupon voucher deal so there was a supplement for some dishes but at £16 for 2 including wine it was still fantastic value. The starters of fish cakes and beetroot salmon gravallax were tasty although there was an added £1.50 for the salmon but as said it was still good value. The mains of lamb and beef were less impressive, both meats were dried and sat in an uninspired jus although this may have been down to them sitting on the pass whilst the waiter rushed around trying his best to cater to 6 tables. A couple who arrived and insisted on a window seat. They left after around 20 minutes as the solo waiter had not managed to clear and set the table by then. Overall I couldn't fault the value or service but it was evident that whilst there were other staff (managers?) drifting around they appeared oblivious to the plight of the young waiter who coped admirably. When asked by a punter as to why he wasn't assisting, a tracksuit clad fellow said he was too busy and duly disappeared. We will return but hopefully next time there will be more acknowledgement by management of front of house service.

i am sorry that you did not enjoy your main meals and i know we are short staffed at the moment so we have a very small team and everyone is bordering 80/90 hours a week at the moment so we all have to find some time to have off we did not expect to be so busy on that firday afternoon either thats why there was only one waiter on!! i was around on my only day off but i had other meetings throughout the day and was unable to assist i do hope that you will come back and you will find you get the service you should of had.

kind regards

“Gorgeous food at reasonable prices”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 30, 2013

Recently we had a family meal at the bull and it was superb, the menu choice was really good, something for everyone, including the children.
The staff were friendly and efficient.
The food was freshly cooked with decent portions, the wine list also had something for everyone and not too expensive for a really good red.

I would definitely recommend the Bull, it would be just as good for a meal for two as well as friends and larger parties.
