We visited on a Saturday night there were 4 of us. It got quite busy so you do need to book.
3 of us had ham hock terrene which was delicious, one had vegetable soup which was reported to be lovely. 2 of us had steak - this was nicely cooked as we had requested. The other 2 had fish and belly pork. Home cooked chips were very nice. Puddings tasty - only criticism portions a little on small side.
Service was reasonable but slowed down as they got busier.
It was quite cold though as no one seemed to be stoking the woodburner and the music was a little loud for us - Joss Stone on repeat all night!
But do try it we thought it better than the usual pub grub.

Four of us were booked well in advance for the Friday between Christmas and New Year. Although the food was as good as a previous visit, the planning by the chef was really poor. Before we ordered we were informed that there had been no delivery of fresh fish, so one starter and two mains were unavailable. Not a huge problem but it got worse. Two of our party ordered the mixed breads with balsamic and olive oil as a starter - the waitress returned after taking our order to say there was only one type of bread so we changed the order. I'd ordered the starter of salmon with quail eggs and the waitress returned again to say there were no quail eggs but I could have poached eggs. Somewhat confused, I eventually worked out that the quail eggs would have been poached so the alternative was poached hen's eggs. Not quite the same so that order was changed as well.

In addition to the limited availability of dishes, one of our party had asked what the soup was, to be told celeriac. On asking what celeriac was, the waitress didn't know. Luckily the rest of us did but surely the waiting staff should have that kind of basic knowledge.

After the initial disappointments the food was enjoyable but we would think twice before going again. It can't be that difficult to sort out the kitchen stocks, especially when our visit followed a few normal working days over the holiday period.

I had a nice Holiday lunch at the Bull Furnace End and was very pleased with the uniqueness, creativity and flavor of the dishes I was served. While it seems that the specialty of the Bull Furnace End is to serve classic local dishes (f*ggots-and-mash were on the menu), the type of food that perhaps an out-of-country visitor might find a bit stodgy was in fact quite tasty and skillfully prepared with excellent presentation. The restaurant is built in an old pub which is connected to what appeared to be an old grist mill and a slaughterhouse in the bend of a creek. It is quaint and typically British, but definitely more upscale than the run-of-the-mill pubs with pub food. Although I typically find British Midlands fare to typically be boring and lacking in spices, I enjoyed the Bull Furnace End and would return here on my next visit.

We have been to this restaurant before and it was good but this time it was excellent. We were a party of four all choosing something different, we were all really pleased with our choices. We were served by pleasant helpful staff, the atmosphere was relaxed and very comfortable and we will defiinately be returning.
